Has to be Louis-Schmeling 2. To avenge a loss with a first round KO is one thing. To do it in front of the entire world, while cast as the champion of democracy up against the champion of nazi-ism, with it also being the first time a black man has been cast in a role like that, man.

(no need for comments about Schmeling actually being a good dude; I know, I'm just saying how the fight was viewed)

60s music generally bores me except for The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Turtles, The Supremes and The Four Seasons and the Bee Gees but the Bee Gees its because of their disco stuff and no self respecting Trans Woman or gay men would hate disco!...

Also notice how many 60s groups were named "The" something lol....luckily by the late 70s, groups were more creative and so we got Kiss, Hanson, Metalllica, INXS, Great White, Survivor, Guns and Roses, Savage Garden, Green Day, Bananarama,, Whitesnake, Culture Club, Journey, NSYNC....in Spanish we had Menudo, Flans, Compania al Rescate.. (in Spanish "los" or "las" is the equivalent of "the")....

Dont look up Compania al Rescate , that was my and my friends boy band that we wanted to have lol....we did not release any albums!!! in case you were wondering, the name means rescue company, which is Spanish also for a fire department, and we decided on that because we thought we coukl sing all kinds of music and so, "we could do different things like a real company where everyone does different things" and also "we wanted to rescue Spanish pop music from rap"-despite the fact one of our members was a rapper and not a pop singer.. lmao

Anyways this is a boxing thread...

Marvin Hagler v Willie Monroe and Bobby Watts

    1) Hagler v Watts I - A very close fight (I had Hagler ahead by one point at the end of 10) that was fought in Philly but it resounded through the boxing continuum that it was a hometown decision. Hagler himself was mortified, but he caught up with Boogaloo a few years later and laid him out in 2 rounds.

    2) Hagler v Monroe I - Unlike the Watts fight, this fight wasn't disputed. In fact, it was said Monroe gave Hagler a going over. His face and pride hurting, Hagler got a rematch less than a year later and knocked out Monroe in the 12th round. Scores are not known in this fight but Monroe stated that he was ahead. So for good measure Hagler and Monroe went at it again and Hagler left nothing to chance and knocked Monroe kicking in 2 rounds.

    FOTC Frazier.

It's like Iron Mike said, he looked like he'd be willing to die before accepting defeat.

Buddy McGirt vs Frankie Warren 2
Azuhma Nelson vs Jeff Fenech 2
    Ken Norton vs Jerry Quarry

With Norton and Quarry… after reading about there relationship, the ducking by Ken, gym beatings, KO’s given by Jerry and the going ons outside the ring, mud slinging, ladies and so on Norton must have been satisfied after that one.

My choices too. After getting slaughtered in the first bout Floyd evens the score in kind in the second fight. The third one was the only really competitive fight in the trilogy.

    And Lewis-Rahman II

It’d requires far too much effort to collect it all if I’m straight with you, but I’ll give you things I can roughly recall.
The source isn’t captured in articles, books and so on it’s passed word of mouth by folks who knew those there or were there.
As I understand it there was an animosity between the two.
Quarry rarely eased up on anyone in sparring not even for his brothers sake hurting him in and out of the ring.
Norton on the other hand frequently required LHW sparring partners to build his confidence, he was a good pro but by the sounds of things he got beat up a bit in the gym so putting two guys like that together…
Norton knocked back multiple offers to fight Quarry until Quarry was shot, I suspect because of the sparring experiences.
They reportedly didn’t speak in the gym or socially associate, they sparred at times but Quarry would make it rough.
if I remember Norton got with an old flame of Quarry’s that almost kicked off a street fight.
Quarry used to claim black fighters were ducking him (in Ring Mag?) and I can see how that’d rub you the wrong way if I were Ken Norton… Norton called him racist and I can see how that would annoy Jerry Quarry.
Norton told Jerry’s girlfriend if she wanted a real man she knew where to look… or something like that.
Lots of little things like that scattered over many years.
