Love that round - perfect reflection of the whole fight. Lopez dominating and nearly stopping Saad in the 8th, then the rally by Saad in the same round that shifted the momentum in his favour and which he never gave up for the rest of the fight. Brilliant fight.
Just one round? Can't do it. Got it down to five: -Pryor v Arguello round 1 - amazing start to my favourite ever fight -Gomez v Pintor round 12 - round 3 was arguably better (won Ring's round of the year, I think) but the 12th was where Gomez first breaks through and signalled the beginning of the end for Pintor, but not before Pintor rallied in the last 15 seconds and had Gomez out on his feet - so much so that his cornerman had to carry him across the ring to his stool! -Gatti v Ward 1 round 9 - obvious choice but how could it not be considered -Chacon v Limon 4 round 15 - fight was in the balance and Chacon drops Limon in the last 15 seconds to take the decision. Limon standing as the bell goes is a pretty heroic image for a guy who ultimately lost -Trinidad v Vargas round 1 - the most one-sided round here but it was such a sensational start by Trinadad that I had to include it. It signalled that you were about to witness something special.
Agree entirely with all but the last. LIMON-Chacon 4 greatest fight I ever saw. Pintor-Gomez 3rd greatest. Pryor-Arguello in top seven. Round three FLETCHER-Green. Green hurts Frank bad and tees off. The ANIMAL wakes up, starts growling and punching and by the end of the round is in control and hurting soft rock
Hagler Hearns was probably the best, but so many people mention it that it is too obvious to mention it now.
Caveman Lee-Licicero last round. Johnson-Franklin first fight; perhaps not one round in particular but, as I watched it I was thinking: "If I were one of the judges how the heck could I even score this fight?" Just a non-stop plethora of blows from both men throughout.
All things considered I think I would give Hagler-Hearns round 1 a very slight edge over Saad-Lopez round 8. Still remember being at the spectrum for Hagler-Hearns and the roar of the crowd rising and rising to a crescendo during the round. But I wouldn't argue with Saad-Lopez
GREATEST ROUNDS EVER FIRPO-DEMPSEY rd 1. Best ever! Frazier-Quarry rd 1. Fantastic. WEAVER-Dokes 2 Round 1 great.
THAT is a great round. Witherspoon hurt Holmes with a hook and unloaded. When coming in, Larry jacks him with a viscous right, hurts him and unloaded on him. Btw, I still think Holmes won that fight 9-3 as I did May 20, 1983. And Weaver beat Dokes 11-4.
I'll say Chavez icing Taylor with seconds left on the clock -though of course Steele's stoppage pissed a lot of people off.
