Texas is a big boxing state and San Antonio is one of its biggest boxing cities who is the best SA TOWN fighter ?

Robert Quiroga 21-2 Flyweight Title Holder 5 Title defenses. Was in fight of the year Vs Kid Akeem.

James Leija- 47-7-1 Beat Hall of Famer Azumah Nelson twice, Beat Titlist Troy Dorsey and Olympic Gold Medalist Steve McCroey.

John Michael Johnson- 30-9-1 WBA Bantamweight titlist and IBF Super Bantamweight Challenger, beat future Hall of Famer and one of my favorite fighters in Junior Jones.

Tony Ayala Jr. - Could've been not only the best San Antonio fighter of all time, but also one of the greatest p4p, if he didnt waste his talent and go to prison. He could've been great, but made a dumb and horrible mistake.

Easily "Jesse" James Leija, he's my favorite fighter. In his prime he was fast and had an excellent jab

Leija had much better management and promotion, especially early in his career, but Quiroga coudn't have done anymore than he did and I believe showed a lot of class retiring when he did rather than hang on for a few paydays. His tragic death still shocking now two years later...

That was very sad. Every year they have a motorcycle race in his memory on the southside. I tend to think Leija was a bit overrated, although still a good fighter, because some of his losses in big fights, although he still managed good wins (Ward, Robinson, Nelson, and many others)

Im glad Quiroga retired when he did, his talent wouldve completely diminshed and would have had a record of like 25-10 or sumthin when he retired , i credit him for knowin when to quit

    Leija.

His fights with Azumah Nelson put him far ahead, IMO.
