Your thread isn't getting any love, possibly because the rematch was very lackluster as we knew that Margarito was all but done as a fighter. I'll throw in something somewhat controversial to see if people will give your thread a second look. Plaster of paris was not found in the wraps. What was actually found were traces of Sulphur and Calcium. While some of the key ingredients in plaster of paris are Calcium and Sulphur, much more than trace amounts are required to create plaster of paris. What was found in Margarito's wraps were used gauze pads. What Margarito was suspended for was for using used gauze pads which is against the rules as all gauze is required to be new. The entire investigation was handled unprofessionally by the CSAC and it would have never held up in a court of law. Do you know what else has traces of sulphur and calcium? Wait for this; sweat, skin, hair, and blood. I'm not going to defend why Capetillo inserted the old pads, maybe old used hard by sweat pads do give an advantage, who knows, but this plaster nonsense is just nonsense. If plaster was indeed found in his pads Margarito would have been banned for life, and possibly prosecuted at a federal level.
Fight didn't really prove anything. Cotto didn't do anything different. The fight was going the same direction as the first then got stopped. Only thing the fight proved was that Pacman broke Margarito's eye.
People get hung up on semantics. The fact is this: regardless of whether the used knuckle-pad was formed from plaster, dried bandage or well-disguised brass or stone, every official that felt it commented that it was harder than a new knuckle pad would have been. If put a harder than normal object across the knuckles of a trained professional, you're giving them an advantage in their upcoming fight. We don't know for sure if Cepetillo used the same tactic against Cotto; but based on what was attempted against Mosley, I'm not ruling out the possibility.
"The insert was about the size of a business card. And about as stiff." -Gabe Montoya The Nevada commission supplied the tape and gauze for wrapping fighters' hands (unlike the Cali commission, which allowed the principles and their seconds to bring their own materials). I was in MSG for the rematch. As revenges go, it was a pretty hollow one.
Margarito didn't use wraps the first time around, at least not intentionally, the rematch was going the same way as the first, he did nothing but target an injury, as usual with that sleazeball. Cotto lucked out because Pac won the match for him by breaking Tony's orbital bone, nothing more.
I liked the fight well enough... But I was cheering hard for Cotto, so that probably played into my personal entertainment factor...
“It [the knuckle pad] was a clean new bandage. But within it, in the inner layers of it, was another bandage wrap. It was not as white as a new bandage wrap would be. It was used and it looked almost like it was sweat soaked and that’s what caused it to have the discoloration. It was harder in certain areas than it should be for pure gauze. It was definitely firm and hard. I believe there was a little bit of, it looked like old blood, on it." -- CSAC Inspector Guevara ...That's some business card. Again, if you're putting an object that has less give over the knuckles of a trained fighter, they're gaining an advantage over a fighter who doesn't have that type reinforcement over their hand. Whether intentional or not, that's what happened prior to Mosley-Margarito.

To be fair, a lot of people including boxing fans don't know what goes in a handwrap as its not something we see in detail too often.
I had mixed feelings about this fight. I like both fighters. And Diaz had Cotto fighting the perfect fight with respect to Margarito’s vulnerabilities. But Margarito was damaged goods. A healthy Margarito beats Cotto every time. This was really a victory for Manny Pacquiao more than anything.
