    The three best in my humble opinion are, in chronological order:

    Tommy Burns
    Jack Dempsey
    Joe Louis

    Has the art perhaps become a bit lost in that division?

    Louis a slapper? He was the best technical punching heavyweight of all time. He did use a chopping right as well as a straight right, but it was hardly a slap!:?

    He pawed his right hand and when he let his hands go he sometimes slapped.

    when he finished off Walcott for example. those are slappy,

    ribtickler, u nailed it. Some misguided poster calling Joe Louis a "slapper" defines the word "ribtickler". Just think Joe Louis
    "slapped" 54 men unconscious. WOW...

    burt i recently rewatched Louis vs Farr.Farr fought a great fight making Louis box with him but Tommy bach was under no illusions as to who'd won the fight.
    He used to say every time he heard the name Louis his nose would bleed.

    I think Louis threw the most technically perfect right hand of any heavyweight.I am at a loss to see where that poster got his opinion from.:huh

    Farr told my Dad Louis beat him ,but he always said he beat Braddock!

    when did your dad speak to him ??
    I think most of the writers at the time thought Tommy beat Braddock and Burman in the states.
    One of my trainers told me Tommy got in the ring after Walter Neusel stopped Jack Peterson and said "right, me next you #######"
    or words to that effect.
    The Welshman certainly battered Neusel anyway.

    The right hand Joe threw at Jimmy Braddock was straight out od the text book
    he knocked Braddock's guard away with his left then dropped his right hand in....beautiful.
    I liked the comment Jack Blackburn made to Louis about having to rip the title from Braddock because he wouldn't just lie down.

    I would have loved to meet Farr and Louis.
    I went to a pub once when i was boxing that had fight films on(8mm)
    i can't remember if it was the commentator or the bloke who owned the films but someone said Louis' first punch broke Tommy's nose and that Tommy got up before the start of the 15th and said to Louis, "come on!!!!"
    Tommy Farr was one tough, tough man and Louis himself said "that boy had *****"
