The Norton fight. He was a beast at cutting off the ring in that fight and he repeatedly picks off Norton’s punches with his gloves. Foreman looked really good in that fight as brief as it was.
I like Foreman’s performances in the Chuvalo and 2nd Frazier fights. Fights in which George was that much more measured but each and every punch was still fearsome and extremely damaging.
Those are my picks as well. The Chuvalo and Frazier 2 matches are excellent performances. He was more of a boxer puncher than a brawler in those 2 events. He fought behind a consistent, heavy jab, used his legs, often held his hands high for responsible defense, pivoted, parried, and threw a lot of straight textbook punches without telegraphing.
2nd Frazier fight blocked left hooks with relative ease, cut the ring vs a retreating Frazier and working Fraziers body.
His stalking, ring cutting and power punching in his bout with Norton was unbelievable to watch. He looked unbeatable. His first bout with Frazier he exhibited a great jab and a controlled fury to destroy an undefeated heavyweight champion considering unbeatable at that time.
Norton was perfection. Frazier I had sloppy moments, but the control game was clearly drilled to perfection. His jab in the Chuvalo fight was so great.
Foreman showed controlled short punching, setting everything up with his jab, during Frazier 1. That was Foreman at his peak. No one pushed around and dominated physically Frazier. Foreman did with ease.
Not the highest level of opposition, but for the most part George was very patient, precise and technically sound vs. Scott LeDoux. He works his jab well, has a very effective short hook and even hooked off the jab (well and with power) in the first round. He wings a few wild rights but for the most part fights well within himself.
No. Back before YouTube existed, I used to buy fights online, on DVD. I either had the first or second fight (can’t recall off-hand), but these were long ago left behind somewhere in life.
I was at the fight. The uppercut George landed was such a brutal shot. Who threw better uppercuts than prime Foreman? He 1 punched a tough guy. The tough guys go out via tko & are seldom 1 punched. But someone wants to beat George you have to take away those uppercuts.
