Who would you say had the best world title run ever at one weight? Most boxers jump up and down weight too much nowdays but you have some real gems. What do you rank higher quality of opponents (like Salvador Sanchez's defences) or quantity (like Ricardo Lopez's defences)?
Hopkins had a stunning run: - Steve Frank, TKO in :24, fastest MW world title fight ever - Glen Johnson, unbeaten at the time, only TKO in his career - Keith Holmes, unification, shutout - Felix Trinidad, unbeaten, P4P#2, heavily favored, most dominating win of the decade, only TKO in his career, unification for lineal title - De La Hoya, P4P-er, unification for all 4 titles for the first time ever, only knockout of his career - Taylor: close, debated losses vs. the best prospect in boxing, disuputed end of reign at 40 - 6 reigning, former or future world champions - all 3 (WBC, WBA, IBF) and all 4 (WBO) titles held at the same time - record of 21 successful title defenses - still the MW World Champion at his 40th birthday - P4P#1 status reached twice as the reigning MW champion (2001, 2004)
Hopkins had an awesome run...one of if not the best of this era but Ill take Monzon's over Nard's anyday.
Wilfredo Gomez had one of the most impressive ones caught on film IMO...He looked the **** and over quite a few very good and sometimes great fighters.
Lennox lewis' was alright (though I'm not claiming best by any stretch of the imagination!): McCall Akinwande Golota in one round Shannon Briggs for the linear title Mavrovic Holyfield twice (at least on my cards ) Micheal Grant...was the next big thing until he met Lewis Botha David Tua Anway, just another to consider.
