Tyrell Biggs was a nice mover, fast handed bigger exponent of the dancing style that Ali developed without winning a world title.

But Biggs was so much bigger than the young Ali that fought Alex Mitteff. Does it count, would this bridge the gap in a fantasy matchup?

Can a great fighter be beaten by a less great, bigger version?

How much stock can we really put into the very best version of Biggs ever being good enough to beat the young, pre championship Cassius Clay with his size?

And if not, why should this apply to other comparisons?

No, but he would make Marciano look stupid, and beat him 12 rounds to 3.

Let's stick to Biggs vs young Cass.

Biggs beats Marciano? He could not beat Damiani.

    Not really.
The best version of Biggs was about 212 to 220 pounds, and maybe 2 inches taller than Clay, narrow in the chest, and not particularly strong for his size. He had long arms, but then so did Clay.
A little bit bigger perhaps, not "so much bigger".

Clay was 188lb vs Alex Miteff. That's a lot smaller than Biggs.

I think he'd be near pick-em to beat a 188 pound Clay, but who cares? (He did beat Lewis.)

So far just one guy thinks this is a pick em.

What I want to know is Does anybody actually think Biggs beats a 188lb Clay?

This is not a Marciano thread.

    Who wins?

    :good thank you.

It's not that Biggs was not a good fighter, Tyrell was a considerable talent in his own right. Gold medallist, bags of potential. His chin was not that bad either.

It's more a question of greatness.

You wrote Archie Moore. Now you've re-edited to say Alex Miteff.
    Okay.

Yes, I think a 188 pound Clay would have won against any version of Tyrell Biggs.

Yes sorry about that. I knew Ali was light for one of either of those fights.

Clay was just too fast and too aggressive/determined to lose to Biggs.
It's not as if Biggs ever developed beyond his amateurish/novice stage either, and when he did pick up the experience he was already well-worn-out, so a younger smaller Clay has too much for any version of Biggs.

The style match-up is not good for Biggs.

While Cassius Clay was still a work in progress pre-title, Tyrell Biggs "remained" a work in progress his whole career. He never really developed much past the amateurs. That and he had existing lifestyle problems that started early in his prospect days. I'm guessing that 1986 and with somewhere between 10-13 fights was probably his pinnacle time frame.. By early 1987 the Duvas were already getting ready to dump him but held out to get the lucrative Tyson fight.. Therefore, there wasn't much experience to go with against even the green version of Ali. And the size difference as already pointed out was marginal.. Biggs never really learned to take advantage of his size anyway and didn't set down on his punches much.. I think the Ali who fought Miteff would out box him in similar fashion to the way he dominated Terrell a few years later despite not having that full development yet.

Best version of Biggs was probably against James Tillis and Jeff Sims. He regressed after that. Ali (Clay) by comfortable decision.

Still nobody picking the superheavyweight here?

Superheavyweight Gold versus Leight heavyweight Gold.

Taking Ali at his 188lb 9 pro fight stage against Biggs at his best ever version... still no takers?
