Leonard,Hagler,Hearns And Duran. Which one of these scored the best win over each other ? Out of the nine bouts in the series,I'm sure it's consensual that the following five would be the main contenders - Duran over Leonard 1980 Leonard over Hearns 1981 Hearns over Duran 1984 Hagler over Hearns 1985 Leonard over Hagler 1987 Please use the poll. If any of the other bouts in the series count,in your estimation, state it on the 'other' caption on the poll, and say which one in your post.
Duran over Leonard Leonard over Hearns Leonard over Hagler Hearns over Duran Hagler over Hearns In that order with 2 and 3 being interchangable IMO.
Zopilote nailed it. Duran UD15 Leonard and Leonard TKO14 Hearns are two of the greatest ever IMO, a cut above.
Extremely tough one to call actually!!:huh:huh So far I got: Hearns over Duran Then Duran over Leonard Montreal Then Hagler over Hearns (although this was for me the best fight ever maybe not the best win as such - Hearns obliteration of the Iron Chinned Duran is just beyond astounding - totally off the scale for me
I picked Leonard over Hearns. The 2 best Welters in the world and top pound 4 pound entrants, a genuine grudge match that had to be made. Hearns coming off his destruction of Cuevas and Leonard taking Duran's heart. It must have been quite some build up. And the match exceeding expectations with back and forth momentum and the change up by both fighters' styles. We just don't see anything like this nowadays. A true classic. The best Welterweight title fight of all time.
Hagler - Hearns was the best FIGHT,but I'm torn between three for the best victory. Duran-Leonard Leonard-Hearns Hearns-Duran Great case for each one.
Yes indeed. Hearns and Leonard, 2 ATG Welters in their prime going at it for supremacy of the division. Hagler, although past his best, was favored to DESTORY Leonard, who was the smaller guy and coming off a 5 ****in' year lay off...Leonard had absolutley no buisness being competitive with THE middle weight of the 80's, let alone beating him. Colossal wins..both of them.
Leonard-Hagler was billed as The SuperFight, a fight years in the making. Each one deserves a mention.
Sort of reminds me of Frazier-Ali I, Ali-Foreman, Foreman-Frazier I. Although I'd say Foreman's destruction over Frazier rates significantly higher than Hearns/Duran for the simple fact that Frazier was undefeated/undisputed champ while 154lbs Duran was far, far beyond his best. I know many will make the usually assertions for Frazier's behalf. No.
Funnily enough I did a thread for those heavyweight ones a few months back,Hands. My two favourite eras I've lived through as a boxing fan. The early-middle seventies for heavyweights and the eighties for welters and middles. Never see the likes again.
Leonard gets a lot of static for his contractual stipulations regarding Hagler, but it's a win you just can't take from him. Not when also considering Hagler hadn't lost a fight in over a decade, Leonard had fought only once in the previous five years and was making his first trip to 160.
