So far most success I have had with it is slipping a jab to the right, and taking a step forward while throwing the hook, kind of in one motion, push with my back foot and the hook lands around the same time my front foot hits the ground(just enough time to pivot).. Iactually do land qute often like this, but it almost seems like its the only way I can land one. Any suggestions? Southpaw here by the way..Haha Also, whats the best way to deal with someone who is always waiting, never throws the first punch, just waiting for that counter constantly..I usually go about that by cranking up my workrate and pressure, it makes me score more than the opponent, but I end up taking quite a few hits in the process, still get the edge on dude, but I just take a few hits I feel I could avoid, haha.
throw it in combination, after a 1-2. it works for me against a southpaw. if you're at close range double the hook to the head and body.
Good advice, also of the jab is a good combination as is left hook left jab then the right cross down the slot, vitili klitchko did it often and its worth practicing.
If you are a southpaw, place the jab and move forward during doing it, directly throw your right hook as if the two punches was one. Bam-bam! I´m a southpaw and that works perfect form me. All the best the Predator
my bad, didnt think of that. with difficulty then,i rarely get caught with a lead hook from an orthadox or southpaw simply cuz its easy too see coming. my coach says 'catch em hooking when they aint looking'.ie when you're giving them something else to look at. you're also open to counters leading with the hook.
Lead hooks increase the chance of getting knocked out cold. All an orthodox fighter has to do is feint the jab and catch you coming in as you're throwing your hook. Lead hooks look great and score well against scrubs, but once you're in there against a good fighter with a good trainer to point it out, it becomes a huge liability.
Being predictable increases your chance of being knocked out. That's why I think you need to establish the jab first. When he's occupied with your jab he won't know a hook is coming, or a right hand. You could also feint the jab yourself and hook off it. Feinting a jab downstairs is even better if he lets it pull his guard down. If you just storm in and start throwing hooks you will get knocked the **** out, that's why you need to set it up.
Exactly!!! You don't want to outright lead with a hook... It's a great weapon off of a jab though, or a feint. If you wanna see great examples of fighters getting clobbered off of lead left hooks, watch Tyson vs Buster Douglas. At times, Douglas feints Tyson into position and hits him before Tyson even begins to throw the hook. Patterson also got nailed big time throwing that crap. Most of the time, he stayed low while leaping in which helped, but eventually he got nailed, and nailed good.
from a southpaw. the main weapon for the right hook is to get you man to move back to which he cant get out the way of it. what way do you like to curcle left or right is actually a big question. i circle to my right to i can jab and counter the guys left hok due to a high shoulder. when he walks in throw a left cross to which he might back away and then drop a hook. the orthy guard is not used to a right hook and will land flat on the jaw. also go tot the body with it aswell. as your opponant will normally run more side on with you, thus leaving his kidneys exposed (his fault for turning round so much). it's also a nice counter jab technique. they jab in slip to your left and then come back with a hook. very hard to get out of the way of that. the right hook is also your key weapon when fightign another southpaw. as this is on the realms of the super awkward a ritgh hook with 2 southpaws will usually result with a ko whiel a left handed figth willl prolly go the distance. a good example would be that fight not long ago lopez-deleon. fient, get a responce then counter your opponant (maybe with the rigth hook). also when you fient dont just "fient" every time you come foreward because your man wont be dumb enough to belive every fient is a punch. so break the rythm with a lead left cross and clinch or a jab. remember that a counter puncher is looking for you to fire so that your foreward inertia can be used for him aswell. so he usually has only one punch that he is looking for. so make him shoot his bolt becuase he wont be abel to follow up. this is what calzaghe did with hopkins when bernard was sitting on the ropes for a few rounds he just let loose a right hand down the southpaw pipe, so th eplan changed to get close get him to fire then swarm the counterpuncher.
Keep it simple and work off your jab, most of your work should come from your jab. If you lead with a right hook and miss youre defence will be exposed and youll get countered everytime (by a good boxer). If you want to lead with a right hook, bob and weave your way inside then drop bombs on him, keep close to him so he has no room to get his own work off.
