i need some advice every time a have a bout with a small slugger when i throw shots at him he has a tight gurad what covers his whole head and body and when i move and try to make a angle i get a sweet left hook to my face....Whats the best way to make a angle without gettin hit????
Im always shorter than my opponents and keep a tight guard, the thing that opens me up are faints, faint a shot to get a reaction or possibly a counter and you will find the gaps, also try drawing a lead from the guy and move back and to the sides, if you can get him to over reach with shots then the upercut should work.
Stick and move. Throw lots of jabs to probe and provoke counters or poke holes in any slight cracks. When you get any chance, throw combinations, because if the first one doesnt land, the second or third or fourth probably will. Varying head and body shots will open him up, but use your footwork to get out of there and keep changing the angle so he can't counter you effectively with feet planted. Feinting is also effective as joeyboy says, but make sure it's not too obvious in making the feint too different than the way the beginning of your real punch would look. If his guard is really that tight, you may have an advantage in limiting his vision, so shoot a bunch of straights to blind him, and then left hook to the body left hook to the head and other such hard-to-see placement of punches will let you do work gradually.
