In the never disappointing (last night's bout was an exception) and fabulously stacked cruiserweight division, a new bunch of highly skilled and almost always exciting fighters has recently emerged as relentless as a NASA sky rocket; now, the question is: which of them has the best win to date? Maybe Oleksandr Usyk's impressive showing against the tough and courageous Glowacki in his opponent's backyard? Or Murat Gassiev's extraordinary triumph over the greatest CW of the last 5 years in the person of Denis Lebedev in one of the most brutal matches of 2016? Or perhaps Mairis Briedis' coming out party domination versus an oddly shy (which is a point in favour of the Latvian, who showed an impeccable timing) Huck? Make your choice objectively!
Usyk. Glowacki was arguably the #1 (or maybe #2 after Lebedev) in the division after KO-ing Huck, and Usyk went to Poland and dominated him.
I actually don't think it was a domination: Krzysztof showed competitiveness in the majority of the fight and some Usyk's rounds were won just by an inch. In fact, I would say it was the kind of wide but not one-sided triumph you sometimes see in boxing. Not to take anything away from Glowacki's valiant victories over Huck and Cunningham, but he never remotely impressed me as much as Lebedev, who made a lot of praiseworthy technical improvements after the G.Jones war and always seemed (at least in my eyes) as the "hidden" (other fighters had always received more hype than Denis, unfortunately) king of the division. That's why I'd rate Gassiev's win as a greater one. But better is different from greater, so I can perfectly understand your arguments for Usyk.
I went with Gassiev because he was in a 50/50 affair whereas Usyk and Briedis were expected to triumph.
