Best win by a faded HW great?

A tautology if i've ever seen one.

 

We dont know do we? Rahman fought better fighters and beat better fighters than vitali did. Comparing common opponents, Rahman got a younger trimmer Corrie Sanders outta there faster than vitali did, and rahman scored a knockout win over a younger lennox lewis. Vitali vs Rahman was in the works 4 different times, and 4 different times vitali postponed the fight only to finally cancel the whole thing days before the fight took place. why not just go through with the fight and then retire right after?(especially considering vitali was suppossed to beat rahman easily right?) we dont know what would have happened. We can only speculate. Vitali looks dominant vs a bunch of 2nd raters but the only two in shape contenders he was put in against, he lost. Rahman proved he could beat better fighters than vitali, vitali did not beat any better fighters than rahman. Its a toss up really if you look at styles. Vitalis low left hand and lean back style might come back to bite him vs rahmans right hand, and rahman has the long powerful jab to neutralize vitalis jab. Rahman has poor stamina which could play a factor, but vitali has displayed lapses unwilling to fight through pain.

 

Here is my observation. Both have there strength and weaknesses.........Vitalis low left hand and lean back style might come back to bite him vs rahmans right hand which is capable of hurting anyone, and rahman has the long powerful jab to neutralize vitalis jab. but on the flipside, Rahman has poor stamina which could play a factor because vitali has shown good late round stamina/workrate. this may upset vitali fans, but vitali has also displayed lapses unwilling to fight through pain and adversity which could also play a factor too. Vitali has the edge in close, but he is not stronger than rahman so he cant bully him. It also depends on rahmans chin if it holds up or not, and if rahmans and decides to box smart and utilize his jab like he did the first 4 rounds vs maskaev, then he has a good chance. I would prob lean toward vitali by late stoppage in a close fight, but if rahman wins i would not be suprised. rahman would either win by decision, or retirement on stool.

 

Especially considering that Rahman had previously beaten him, whereas Vitali had not. Also, it was a more decisive win than Lewis's stoppage of Klitschko, which left a bit of controversy. I think people had real doubts about a 36 year old Lewis coming back to avenge his defeat against Hasim. Definately a notable feat.
