Obviously its Kostya Tzyu....but I think Hatton's win over Urango was a very good win....Urango has gone on to be a force at 140. Collazo shouldnt even be on the list because I felt Collazo beat Hatton...as well as Berto for that matter.
You would only ask this question to challenge the win over Tszyu. No matter. It was his best win. A great win. A fair win. Against the best in the division, who had just destroyed the next best in Sharmba Mitchell. Hatton shouldn't have got away with the 'nads punch, but then Tszyu shouldn't have got away with the earlier nut crunchers. Hatton was not as good as his fans (including me) deluded themselves into believing he would be - but that was a wonderful victory. Watch the fight and admit the truth - Hatton beat the number one in the division convincingly. Did he do much else afterwards? Not really, unfortunately - though it's still a wonderful career by almost anyone's standards.
The Urango win shows some great boxing skills for, as I recall, the first eight rounds. Then Hatton really does hold for dear life. A shame, cos all his detractors suddenly had an argument. I think the Collazo victory wrecked his confidence, because of the way he suffered against a slickster in the last four or five rounds.
Then you haven't watched the fight. Hatton was hungrier, quicker, punched harder and just plain got the tactics right. That night, that Tyszu, vs that Hatton, the Aussie never wins anywhere. A rematch and he probably would have changed tactics.
For me its easily Paulie Malignaggi. The best fighters Hatton beat where Urango, Tszyu, Castillo, Collazo and Malignaggi. I thought he got a gift vs Collazo, Castillo was badly shot and had been since the Corrales fight, Urango wasnt the most impressive performence although still dominant and for me the Tszyu fight was shady how the ref allowed Hatton to elbow him and low blow him and clinch to much. Agianst Malignaggi he dominanted him in every aspect with actual clean and powerful punches and this agianst a World Champion who had only one loss a somewhat close loss to the great Miguel Cotto. Hatton is the only man to truely dominate Malignaggi and he stopped him.
Kostya would have benefited from a different ref in his fight against Hatton, that much is sure. Watch the fight again, Hatton nods to the ref whenever he wants a break. There was WAY too much wrestling going on for a boxing match too... Fight could have gone a lot different if the ref forced them to box, that's my opinion anyway.
Don't act like his win over Maussa wasn't impressive. Vivian Harris was being groomed to be THE opponent for Floyd Mayweather. Manny Steward thought he had something special in Harris - and Harris couldn't even contain his excitement to fight Floyd Mayweather that during the conference he wouldn't shut up. But Maussa handled everything Harris could offer and just beat him up. Maussa derailed that match up. After Hatton beat KT he didn't need to fight Maussa - since Hatton was already planning leaving light welter for welter it's not like the WBA that Maussa took from Harris was that meaningful to Hatton. Hatton took the fight and whooped Maussa.
sat on his chest, shortened his punches. Actually defended with his gloves. hatton fought brilliantly that night, the holding is ridiculously exaggerated
