I gave paulie three rounds maybe 4. Rounds 8 and 9 he made Cotto look silly at times. Mayweather would never struggle like that against a guy the level of Paulie. Even not getting a stoppage Cotto shouldnt be getting rocked and outboxed at any point.

Not that much less experienced than was the incumbent champ. Cotto had 142 rounds boxed, to Paulie's 127 by then. 26 bouts instead of 21. Granted, several of those were title bouts and it was Paulie's world title bout debut - but they had a common opponent in longtime contender Rocky Martinez and it isn't like Malignaggi was fed to the wolves leaping straight from cans to contention.

Fair point about Paulie looking smooth enough in the decisive Baby Bull rematch just half a year earlier, but age can catch up with you in a hurry. Khan was fantastic on the night, and I'm not trying to diminish his performance or withhold credit from him - but the fact is that Paulie did just look a bit slow on the trigger and mired in quicksand...which was remedied when he tacked on several pounds and started popping hummingbird flash jabs again. That part - Paulie looking old and slow and bogged down - has nothing to do with what Khan was doing on the night (which was do terrific work and pick apart the opponent he had in front of him, who he still would have probably beaten had Paulie been as quick as in his halcyon days at 140).

Ugh. :-( Noted. No ****. And? Not AT ALL relevant or necessary to bring up as a response to what you quoted, if you look at the full context of what you quoted.

    What the ****, man?

FFS, I even qualified my post with the fact that certain aspects of Malignaggi looking better upon moving up - like how fast his hands were - had nothing to do with who is in the ring with him. (ie Khan, or the bums at welterweight) Did you skip that part? :patsch

Yes, Khan is very very fast himself. Yes, there's the illusion of an opponent being slow because a very fast boxer like Khan makes them "look" slow in comparison side by side. Even looking through that illusion, though - Malignaggi was empirically, considerably slower that night than he'd previously been at 140. After moving up, he has regained that speed.

The more vague and general "well yeah he looked better against weaker opposition" point is ****ing INVALID when discussing specific tangible elements like hand speed - which I thought was made pretty clear as wtf I was talking about without the need to go in circles and make redundant obvious points. I wasn't saying "he looked **** against Khan and good against the cans at WW." That's more vague, and general. I was very clearly and specifically making the point that "he looked SLOWER against Khan, and FASTER - as fast as he'd been in his younger days - upon moving up". THAT PART has nothing to do with who the opponent is.

Way to hone in and selectively quote a fragment of a sentence out of context to make an utterly worthless tangential point.

    God damn.

being repeatedly hit by a jab slows you down, in khan fight his hands were slower but that's because he is always out of position and off balance and that affects speed, against bums he is in a better position - resulting into better balance hence better speed

No. You're allowing way too much variance (in something that's usually fairly constant from one bout to the next) caused by factors that don't have anywhere near that much effect on how quickly someone can snap their arm out. Some, yes. That much, so as to have that profound an effect on the speed of a boxer who relies on being a speedster? Absolutely not.

Khan's jabs and superior placement ****ed with his timing more than anything. Paulie's slowness of hand - how quick he got his glove from point A to point B - was his own cross to bear.

Combine that with the fact that he said in interviews that making light welterweight was no longer feasible and was killing him, and that moving up was just what the doctor ordered and brought back his speed - and it's pretty goddamn clear what caused him to be slow that night.

I'm not blaming the loss on Paulie outgrowing the division and being drained that night. I'm blaming just how slow he was. That's it. Khan would have won even if Paulie was faster than ever. Khan was just the better man at that point in their careers. My only point was specifically about Paulie's hands moving like they were underwater.

you talk as if one aspect doesn't affect another, being punched repeatedly takes alot out of you and slows you down - that's not even up for debate

It does so over time. He was slow all night, from the beginning.

Paulie could have KNOCKED HATTON out, but he just made it so the British fight fans gets impressed much of his skills in the ring. Paulies' hidden power could have been unleashed on that fight.
