I actually think that Lightweight is better (only just) than Welterweight now. Making it the best division obviously.
imo 135 is better than 147 because all the top guys at 135 are facing or will be facing each other very soon. while at 147, after margarito-cotto, there will be nothing else to wait for since it is pretty clear that floyd will not fight the winner of that said fight. 135 could very well be crowning an undisputed champion early next year
Good: 168 - Calzaghe may or may not be around, but Kessler, Bute, Froch, Taylor, Inkin, and Miranda offer plenty of interesting matchups 147 - Mayweather is being a ***** in 'semi-retirement', but Cotto, Mosley Quintana and solid contenders like Williams, Margarito and Clottey make up a strong looking division 135 - Just got real interesting, with Pacquiao and Guzman adding to the already decent trio of Campbell, Diaz and Casamayor. A few prospects to look out for too 130 - Even with Pac and Guzman gone, it wasn't as bad as I initially anticipated. Marquez is elite, a few solid guys and the mecurial Gamboa makes the division 122 - Vasquez and Marquez are elites, I prayer for the rematch! Molitor is a nice boxer that can compete with these guys, De Leon is crude but exciting, Cabellero is decent. Overall, great division 115 - Montiel and Mijares are p4p top 15 level, and there are plenty of solid B+ types with a range of styles around them Okay: Heavy - Klitschko is elite yet fragile, which maintains some excitement and Haye gives me something to look out for, otherwise this would be in the horrible category Cruiser - A division of exciting prospects, but no elites 154 - I usually give it a hard time, but it could be the next supermiddle. Some intruiging matchups even if the names aren't great, with Dzinz, Alcine and the returning Forrest 140 - Nothing to get excited about here. No top level fighters, just solid guys 112 - Donaire is exciting, Naito and Wongjon and Sakata are worth watching 108 - A division for the purists, some very nice technical boxers, no more so than Calderon, but nothing that gets the blood boiling Horrible: 175 - A load of pensioners, and only one close to elite fighter in Dawson. Calzaghe is unlikely to fight a meaningful fight here 160 - Real lack of depth in talent. Pavlik is solid, Abraham is ok if limited, the rest of the top 10 are sorely lacking and would be journeymen in most divisions 126 - Nothing excites me one bit 118 - I only really look out for Mabuza here Know **** all about strawweight, I must confess
147 is the best, 140 is a shithole atm. 160 has no strength in depth, 154 is underrated (a lot of depth with no superstars), 175 is iffy, so is 135.
Outside of Pavlik (and especially if Abraham loses) middleweight has gone quickly from a great division to very weak. If Abraham loses and Pavlik moves up there is nobody left that is worth an HBO/SHO date.
If Pac, Guzman and JMM count as lightweights now then I have to say 135 is the best Campbel, Casa and the Diaz's. Welter is a mighty close second with Mayweather, Cotto and Margo the champion not fighting the top welterweights is not good. As for worst I would have to say it is still heavyweight, there is only one heavyweight worth watching and that David Haye and he hasnt really started his heavyweight campaign yet. nobody knows nor cares about the division right now and thats bad for the sport. Wlad comes across as a nice guy, but doesnt have the heart to set any pulses racing, even his own, Klitschko - Potvetkin was a title fight of Akinwande proportions. Chagaev and Peter are too very unimspiring belt holders aswel and i cant see them keeping their titles long. So what have we got to look forward to Wlad vs Tony Thompson...ugh. 175 is an ageing division, Calzaghe Hopkins, Woods, Erdei, Johnson are all good operators but the end is soon for them all, by the time Dawson reaches the number 1 spot, their will be no one interesting for him to fight. 168 is agreat division with lot of young talent, definately a div to keep an eye on.
Yeah HW is still in bad shape! Only reason I picked 154 ahead of it is in answering the question to thread I had to look at ring's top ten rankings at that weight after I got past about 4 fighters. Now when I saw people like dzind and alcine I thought 'oh yeah I suppose they could be good' but the casual fan will only know Oscar at that weight and that is for previous acheivements! At least the casual fan will know of Klitschko (some may have heard of Haye - particularly in UK). Also - I find myself talking about HW quite a bit on ESB. Granted it is mainly to either slag the division off or talk about Haye's next opponent but I cant remember the last time I talked about 154 unless it was to do with PBF v DLH! I take your point on HW division but have to disagree and say LMW is **** poor!
