He's going to be 33 by the time he's in a big fight it seems. He's only going to fight the likes of Alvarez, Lephkin and maybe Barrera at best this year.

I think he turned down the Kov fight because he was still inexperienced as a pro and a loss at that stage could really hurt him. Let's say they fought and Kov won, well now casual fans will disregard Beterbiev as one of Kov's victims and then other fighters probably won't fight him anyway because he would be high risk, low reward. Or maybe he's actually afraid of Kovalev, who knows lol.

Stevenson is in the same promotional stable, they want to get all the LHW belts which is why Beterbiev has only spoken of Kovalev (and Ward, more recently) in the media as 'the' world class opponent he would like to get.

He was just crowned Fighter OTY by RDS, the main sports media outlet in the province of QC where he fights/lives. More people are starting to notice, and his eliminator fight (IBF) this Winter will likely be the semi final on a major card in Montreal or Quebec City.

Actually the fights in Russia have not been rigged at all that I've noticed. It's the more fair scoring in boxing and I'm not even joking. I really want them to have more fights there, and I'm American.
