But Mayweather is older than Pacquiao by almost two years, and the fight was pretty much a done deal in 2010 until Pacquiao started making started making strange excuses for why he couldn't go through with RBT. Can you imagine if Floyd turned down a fight with Pacquiao because he refused to undergo RBT because he claimed getting blood taken would weaken him for 3 days? I find it a little confusing that so many people put all the blame on Mayweather for that fight not happening earlier and act like he had some grand plan to wait until he was almost 40 years old to make the fight.
But haven't many of his guys been in with tough comp? Just think about this, how many high profile fights can you think of this past year where the odds were relatively close?
But it was still called for this past spring, when it did happen. There were no shortage of people, including many of this site, who claimed in the lead up to that fight that Mayweather was forced to take the fight. Furthermore, how is it all Mayweather's fault that the fight didn't happen earlier?
Maybe he's confident in his mans abilities. Michel wouldn't be saying this if he didn't get the OK from Haymon. If Beterbiev wins, then he brings all the belts to PBC and fights Stevenson in a grand unification in Montreal. Seems perfect for PBC,...IF Beterbiev won
Fight won't happen. It is just BS talk from Yvon Michel. Edit: Actually, Kovalev himself said he wants now Stevenson and he is not so sure about the idea of facing Beterbiev. So Kovalev wants to fight Stevenson in Russia... Good luck on that. Source: http://www.tvasports.ca/2015/07/26/kovalev-veut-sattaquer-a-beterbiev
Yes, the fight did take years to make and that was a shame. However, there was a lot of B.S as well as legit logistical issues with that fight being. Furthermore, Kovalev vs. Beterbiev and Loma vs. Rigo have to happened yet. And Golovkin vs. Lemieux is nowhere near the level of importance of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, it's actually much closer to Mayweather vs. Ortiz. Of course, no one applauding Mayweather for fighting Ortiz.
In general, don't worry about who what promoter or manager was involved. Just name me some high profile fights this year, you can even name upcoming fights, where the odds were relatively close.
