By Allan Fox: Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) is now in the hot seat with his close/controversial 12 round unanimous decision win over former IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) on November 19 last year Not only is Kovalev gunning for Ward’s titles in a badly wanted rematch, but also unbeaten #2 […] The post Beterbiev and Kovalev gunning for Andre Ward appeared first on Boxing News 24.
Yeah it's a WWE handicap match. Floyd will be the ref and turn babyface by KOing Andre the F out with brass knuckles and joining the Soviet Boys.
What's the point? Its not like he has the balls enough to fight either of them, at least Ward manned up for the Kovalev match, which is more than I can say about that other piece of ****.
Here's the point, both Ward and Stevenson are champions and there is no doubt that Kovalev will get the first shot at Ward. So why is Beterbiev wasting his time calling for a Ward fight when Stevenson is available. From what Berto was saying, Haymon stated that everybody would be fighting everybody. If that's true then the fight should be made. Then the stage will be set to solidify all the belts.
Yvon Michel is on the record saying that Alvarez is on the Stevenson path while Beterbiev is after Kovalev/Ward hence the IBF eliminator. He's not stupid, Beterbiev-Stevenson would be promotional suicide. Alvarez will likely beat Bute on points in February and fight Stevenson in the Spring/Summer. Beterbiev will fight an IBF eliminator in the USA against TR's Gvozdyk or ME's Barrera imo, and the winner gets a title shot by end of September - per http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2016/12/17/beterbiev-tout-pres-du-but -if you can read French. Ward/Kovalev, depending on who comes out of the rematch, will need to make a decision on their IBF belt in roughly 9 months - fight Beterbiev or vacate.
I can't read french but my computer can so no problem. I thought that Beterbiev and Stevenson were Haymon fighters but it seems that I didn't have the right information. Thanks for the feedback.
Fair enough, I'm down for that, but I have a feeling Stevenson will quit Haymon before facing Beterbiev, it wouldn't be the first time he pulled that trick.
imagine if bute beat alvarez. but vs Stevenson... Pre froch Bute would mop the floor with Stevenson. But, Stevenson sucks so badly on the insider I could see bute having some success
if bute wins even 4 rounds vs alvarez he'll get the nod because he has one of the most beloved fan base he could land a partially blocked jab and the crowd would go nuts.
I wouldnt be shocked if Kovalev and Beterbiev have to go through a career shortening fight with each other to get the fight now
I could imagine a war. They are also well aware of each other. Problem is after wars like that, it can often take something out of a fighter and they are then not the same when big opportunities arise like a world title fight. I always wonder if D Chisora had of been matched differently instead of so tough, would his career have been a bit different?
