OK, OK, bit of fun really, but I just finished re-watching Beterbiev - Saunders in HD and I gotta say I'm very, very impressed. Beterbiev, for those who don't know, was Kovalevs nemesis in the Russian ams (though Kovalev takes issue with the victory) and the two have very noticeable similarities in style. Heavy handed, accurate pressure fighters who throw in volume. Perhaps the only real edge I'd give to Kovalev would be the fluidity of his combos. Crumpling Saunders who hasn't been stopped in 10 years in 3 rounds is a big achievement for a second fight rookie. GYM is moving Beterbiev along very fast, and you can see why in this fight. Of course its early days yet, and there's a long way still to go, but I'm just announcing that the Beterbiev hype-train is getting up steam. His first two fights were on the last two Stevenson unders (Dawson and Cloud), so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's in action again on Nov 30th (which will make for an interesting meeting if Kovalev is also there). Keep an eye on this guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhR7Iiy4hTk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoYnwRkQliE CHOO - CHOOOoooo:bbb
I was alerted to Beterbiev by posts on esb and managed to watch both his pro fights. Impressive! He certainly has the talent and the skills to go very far.
Yeah, he's definitely someone worth watching. Too early to say how far he'll go for certain, but even at this stage I'm willing to consider him to be a legitimate prospect with a lot of potential.
Was just thinking of making a thread like this... What should be his nickname? I'm thinking ''the Chechen Chopper'' or something.
GYM would like to get him a world title fight by time he is 10-0...they said they want to fast trach his career...should be interesting to see who the next 8 opponents are
