Beterbiev broke a rib (complete fracture) in training. He is currently thirty five years old and I fear his win over Gvozdyk will be the highlight of what could have been a better career. With Promotional issues and now injuries taking more of his prime years than they should have, I just don’t see much more for him. That being said where does he rank in your mind at this point in his career? ATG? Just elite? Thoughts?
I am no world champion but if I even slightly feel that something is off with any part of my body, I skip the next workout. What a mad ****er. But the dude is likely used to injuries and just made a bad call. I am sure we have all pushed ourselves through an injury, well those of us who actually get off our asses here.
****ing Top Rank! This is what you get for putting on weak cards. The moment something happens to the main event, everything gets cancelled.
Canelo is getting the contract drawn up. Fight will be on two weeks notice, offer Beterbiev can't refuse. Let's hope Beterbiev doesn't duck to fight bums.
Injuries happen. This guy is a monster and it looks like he didn’t give himself time to heal and made it worse by training. He will be back and will continue to dominate. I suspect his next opponent to test that rib as often as possible. Not sure if any of you have ever broken a rib but it’s extremely painful. I broke one in a bike accident and can’t imagine trying to fight with a broken rib. Takes a long time to heal, especially well enough to withstand a shot from a pro boxer. Of course, Beterbiev is as tough as it gets and probably wants to come back too soon. This could be his undoing. Hope not because he’s great for the sport.
Against Clenelo? Beterbeef only gets a 2 week training camp, can weigh in at 175, but not rehydrate more than 1 pound and he can't eat or drink after the weigh in for 8 hours. Chepo will chaperone to ensure no rules are violated.
