Few boxers since Iron Mike back in the 80's have created such an aura of fear as the Chechen Wrecking Ball, Artur "The Steamroller" Beterbiev Tyson had the fortune of being a powerhouse American Heavyweight with an intimidating set of eyebrows. The American mainstream media machine got massively behind Tyson and marketed him as some unstoppable force of nature, and the public ate it up Artur brings far superior boxing ability and p4p superior power, but remains an unknown to all but boxing fans as - like Golovkin before him - he'll never have the backing of Western mainstream media. Too bad. The mainstream media have had two legitimate superior "next Tysons" on their hands and let them both slip right on by
Beterbiev also reminds me of a more talented and technical Rocky Marciano. Heck Beterbiev is probably stronger than him.
Well then he has had 12 fights in 5 years. Kinda hard for the media to get behind a boxer who doesn't box.
It’s a shame we haven’t seen more of him and what he can do in the pros. I watched him for years in the amateurs, he was a wrecking ball in the 75, 81 and 91kg divisions. Whenever he was on I knew I was going to see a guy get hurt. He’s just ridiculously strong, he walks down everyone (including Usyk).
Tyson was fighting twice on month on his way up and that was a big part of his aura. I like Beterbiev but he has to start fighting once in a while
What aura? I think Beterbiev is a talented fighter, but he barely fights and is virtually unknown. He's been a pro for almost 6 years and barely has 12 fights. He can't put fear in anybody by fighting only once a year at his age. Beterbiev being unknown is his own fault. Beterbiev needs to fight and beat some good competition, which he is more than capable, but with his inactivity can you blame the mainstream media for not investing any time into him. Beterbiev had a chance to fight Sullivan Barrera, which would've been a good name on his resume and would've gave him some leverage against some of the other champions, but he lowballed Barrera and Barrera moved on. GGG is a lot more active than Beterbiev and far more established and even GGG had to swallow his pride and give Jacobs a good offer to get him in the ring. GGG tried to lowball him, but in the end had to payup, since most top 5 fighters aren't desperate like a gatekeeper or a fringe contender. Beterbiev needs a win over a top 10 fighter, but preferably a top 5 fighter in his division for the media to take him seriously. After he beats Callum Johnson he needs to talk to his promoter and make Jack or Alvarez (if he wins the rematch) a good offer and get them in the ring, since a win against either one would make him the man of the division.
I like Beterbiev, but he has a long way to go before proving he's half as skilled and as strong as Marciano. Beating Enrico Koelling doesn't cut it. At the very minimum he'd have to clean out both 175 and cruiserweight (weak division) in a dominant fashion before he could come close to comparing to Marciano.
If they Had got behind him there would've been massive financial backing behind him and have had no trouble finding willing lambs to the slaughterhouse
He put fear into the entire division. The entire IBF Top 15 wanted nothing to do with him He wont fight Alvarez as they share the same trainer, and Jack wont want anything to do with him either It's a shame we never got Beterbiev Kovalev. That was a monster monster match up that seems to have slipped by
