I had my fun with Montreal scene but I find french speakers intolerant and overly aggressive. Combine that with poor manners and inflated egos and you got a volatile mixture that I refer to steer clear of. My fiance speaks french but I just can't. ..it's harder to learn after 30.

It's a french speaking province. If french people went to live in Toronto, would you expect them to speak or learn english? Of course.

Yet there are still places in Montréal where you get served in English only, now that ****es us off a lot.

If you live in Québec, french is either your first language or you better learn it. Because you're right, we are intolerant of ignorant english speakers thinking we're stubborn and have inflated egos about our culture's most important part which is our language.

 

My experience with the Quebecois is that if you attempt to speak French, then they will meet you halfway. I understand them being intolerant to people who come to their province and expect the natives to speak English, even though most of them can.

Since we are about 6 millions French speaking people in the only French territory in North America, sourrunded by 350 millions English speaking people, if we are not at least a littly bit defensive about this issue, we would disapear. Sorry if it hurts somebody's feeling...:deal
