For the few people here wishing that Beterbiev "was afraid" or a "punk" or whatever, that's just wishful thinking.

I don't think it's fear in any way, whatsoever. I've said this before, but I believe Main Events probably made this offer now because they know Beterbiev will eventually become Sergey's mandatory -- and Duva doesn't want to do a purse bid and get her @ss "taken to the woodshed" by Haymon, who will surely win the bid. Duva pulled out of a purse bid with Stevenson ffs... and I don't think Kovalev is afraid of him, just the same way I don't think Beterbiev is "afraid" of any fighter in the LHW division.

Having said this, I believe it was Haymon himself who (more than likely) turned this offer down. Haymon holds grudges and realizes he's got a talented fighter who will probably put Duva back at the negotiation table on better terms soon enough. Just wait until Beterbiev becomes Kovalev's mandatory. :D

Neither guy is scared of the other, but there's no love lost between the two fighters' management.

Probably not. They're just going to let him gain mandatory status instead, which is what I think Haymon wants.

When summed up with no context, that is kind of what it looks like.

But there's clearly more to it than that based on past negotiations between Duva and Haymon. The fight WILL happen; it's just a matter of when.

I don't think anybody thinks Beterbiev is actually scared, but his team quickly reconsidered once Kovalev called the bluff lol.

If this fight goes to purse bids and those Russians get involved, then this fight won't be in Canada on a PBC network:rofl.
They got Wlad in Moscow for Povetkin

Hryunov and Ryabinsky have no affiliation with Duva and Main Events. A purse bid will be a re-run of the Stevenson setup, with Duva and HBO on one side and Yvon Michel (Beterbiev's promoter) and Haymon on the other.

Hopefully Duva doesn't pull out when the time comes for the bid and we get the fight then. I for one don't care where the fight takes place, as long as it does.

It took longer for Beterbiev to stop a war torn Campillo who was coming off of KO losses to Kovalev and Fonfara than it did for Sergey, who didn't even look like he was trying.

If a fight goes to purse bids, anyone can bid on it.
Why do you think Hennessey and K2 were sh*tting their pants over Wlad-Fury bids?
Pretty sure World Of Boxing is going to put some of their fighters on this Kovalev card in November. You think they won't want a piece of Kovalev v Beterbiev?

So one more fight against BHop, Skoglund or Chilemba is going to get Beterbiev ready for Kovalev?:rofl

I view Beterbiev as cut from a similar cloth as the likes of Rigo, Tanaka, Lomachenko etc.

He's not just a guy with 9 fights, he's one of those super amateurs who can be moved much faster than your regular boxers. Despite having only 9 fights, Beterbiev has faced a couple of good fighters already and easily dispatched of them.

    I guess we'll see eventually.

The fight will happen and Beterbiev "being scared" is pure horse manure.

Good chance it doesn't happen because Kovalev is on HBO and Beterbiev is with Al Haymon

Beterbiev is with Haymon, but he's not with an actual network. He can fight anywhere.

The fight will happen eventually unless one of them gets picked off and loses soon.
