This is a very good chess move by Al Haymon. Please correct me if I'm wrong: Phase 1 Artur Beterbiev vs Bernard Hopkins. 2 possibilities: Bernard accepts the fight, Beterbiev will steamroll him and gain more drawing power. Bernard rejects the fight, Beterbiev has an easy fight vs some weak challenger. Outcome: Artur Beterbiev becomes the no.1 challenger for the WBO title. Phase 2 Al Haymon does what he can to block Kovalev from defending his IBF title against Beterbiev, IBF forces Kovalev to relinquish his title. Artur Beterbiev faces some random for the vacant IBF title (not Kovalev). Artur Beterbiev (IBF) and Adonis Stevenson (WBC) have the titles. They fight some good challengers for a year and gain more income. Phase 3 Artur Beterbiev (IBF) vs Past Prime Adonis Stevenson (WBC) = Artur Beterbiev (IBF, WBC). Artur Beterbiev (IBF, WBC) vs Sergey Kovalev (WBA, WBO) = Unification fight. Winner fights Andre Ward.
Joshua is 25, has only been a pro for less than two years. You cant expect him to fight top 10 fighters and challenge for a belt right away.
If Kovalev Beterbiev eventually comes to purse bids, I wouldn't be surprised to see that Rooskie billionaire get involved.
I don't know why people are so mad. Artur obviously needs more seasoning. People give everyone else a pass, but a guy who has only been pro for like two years with nine fights is going to get hated on for not fighting the most dangerous man in boxing right now in his tenth pro fight, ridiculous. Haters are going to hate I guess. :smoke
LOL at Ward being the ultimate prize. :rofl But I agree I think that's what is going to happen. Except Kovalev will probably fight Ward when Artur fights Adonis. Then winner meet. Hopefully, it's Beterbiev vs Kovalev, that would be an explosive fight.
Ward will fight a guy or two at 175lbs in preparation for the mega unification fight. I'm picking Ward to come out on top in this unification fight, personally.
Nothing to do with Hopkins. It makes more sense to fight Stevenson and have more leverage against Kovalev and a larger percentage of the purse. Beterbiev is ranked #2 by the IBF anyway so the fight is an inevitability going into 2016.
:deal Meanwhile we get to see Kovalev Krush more TOMATO CANs and fight endless rematches with Jean Pascal...
Things are going like I predicted: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=545109 People who thought the Duva's offer was going thru were fools. Beterbiev will win the IBF belt without fighting Kovalev.
At the end of the day, Beterbiev only has *9* pro fights. It's WAY too soon for him to face the top guys @ 175.
That division is filled with them. Could be because Kovalev is that much better than anyone in that division right now.
