Like I said, I was at the fight. Smith’s success is based on being an oversized light heavyweight. He looked like a skinny guy next to Beterbiev. Beterbiev is big.

 

I think he’s stronger and has more power than the majority of the guys who Holmes defended against. If he bulked slightly and didn’t have to make weight, it would be even more in his favor.

On top of that, he has a chin, great punch placement and less is more ring generalship. He would’ve picked up a belt if he fought in the early 80s heavyweight pool.

Other than 2 years, Beterbiev spent his entire amateur career at around 178. He debuted at 28 years old, which means as a fully grown man he was 5'11 and 175 lbs. His reach isn't very big either at 73'.

The only guy the same height as Beterbiev is Ocaiso, and even he's a full 30 lbs heavier with a slightly longer reach. Ocasio was 205 lbs as a 22 year old pro. Frank debuted at 210 lbs.

In what universe is Beterbiev close to the same size as these fighters? Nearly every single one of them is taller, rangier, and 30-40 lbs heavier. It's pure speculation to assume Beterbiev could gain that much weight and still be just as effective since he never weighed remotely close to 205+ as an amateur or pro.

His point was that Shavers had even more power than Beterbiev and was naturally larger but couldn't grab a belt in the 80's. You claimed Beterbiev would do well due to his power, punch placement, etc despite lacking size. If Shavers couldn't Beterbiev isn't winning anything.
