Yarde tried his best to give him the old heave ho and we saw how that turned out. I just don't think Calzaghe has the firepower to pressure Beterbiev. What Calzaghe was good at was speed, stamina, workrate and crazy reflexes. That could be enough to beat Beterbiev. What I don't like though is how zaggers worked in the wheelhouse of his opponents. I just think that being close to Beterbiev is a horrible idea.
Considering that after the prime, both RJJ and Hopkins knocked Calzaghe down (both in the first round, I think) the only logical outcome for me is that Beterbiev wins here by knockout. Calzaghe is not proven enough as a LHW.
Yes I completely agree he can do that to guys. But calzaghes front foot work rate and speed would have him resetting all night. Not saying beterbiev isn't good and definitely wouldn't bet a lot of money on Joe winning but this is just what I think. Watch certain bits of the yarde fight, now I'm not saying calzaghe hits as hard as yarde but any decent little hook that yarde lands from a different angle he has to stand upright and get back to his stuff. You can do that a lot against that level but I think calzaghe is two levels above anyone artur has fought
Honestly if Calzaghe ever faced someone like Beterbiev - elite pedigree and Olympic background at the highest level - his entire reputation would be in tatters because he would be violently be KOd and probably would never recover from it. He already had a questionable heart in the early 2000s but funnily that never gets mentioned on forums
Beterbiev is a Cruiserweight/Small Heavyweight sized Light Heavyweight that hits like a truck. Hopkins never had a stoppage at Light Heavyweight and was 40+ and dropped Calzaghe like a sack of potatoes as did a completely shot RJJ. Calzaghe only had 2 fights at Light Heavyweight and was dropped in both fights so yeah I wouldn't think its logical to favour Calzaghe over Beterbiev at Light Heavyweight.
I loved Joe and he might win every round until Beterbiev crushes him with some brutal shots. Beterbiev is a wrecking machine and is fundamentally sound. He’s a walking example of a brute. Brutal fighter, as hard as nails and one of the toughest LHs in history. It’s a shame his career has been so mismanaged. He should be a star of the sport.
I would be more likely to put money on Beterbiev than Calzaghe. Beterbiev has never fought anyone as fleet footed as Calzaghe but he has fought and dispatched guys that were nearly as equal as boxer punchers and were nearly just as tricky in the ring defensively. Calzaghe has never fought a tank before, no one even close to having the same power or ability to break you down to the body and head over 10+ rounds (or less). Calzaghe has been clipped by Roy, Bernard, Kabary Salem, Byron Mitchell. Also Calzaghe despite being defensive comes forward on his front foot a little too much, and will go into clinches to try to muscle the other guy................that's very dumb and suicidal against Beterbiev.
It's definitely looking like people think Beterbiev is too big, too strong, and hits too hard. I see not one person gives Joe a chance of winning by stoppage - though I wonder if that's more about him and any perceived durability Bertebiev has?
This thread is sad as hell. Calzaghe's resume at 175 is him getting knocked down by two 40 year olds, one of whom he arguably lost to. This thread should never have been made. The Italian Dragon gets absolutely mangled. Bet your children on it. It's totally unsurprising to see some of the folks picking The Italian Dragon here are also rabid Joshua fans. Really adds up.
They need to revisit early 2000s articles and discussions about Calzaghe. The man had no heart and was constantly pulling out of fights. Even in the run up to the Lacy fight he wanted to pull out but his dad talked him back into it and Frank Warren gave him a final warning
How odd, aren't you the guy who made a thread calling him a "legend"? Now, you are shitting all over him. Didn't you also call Joshua a legend and then in another thread said he was basically rubbish and had no heart? Do you even know what day of the week it is?
