    Geale and Cloud have nearly the same resumes. Both have around thirty fights, three losses, and defended their IBF strap half a dozen times, before going into a losing streak.

    Except Geale fought nothing but top 10 MWs and unified his title.

    Yes, he dropped his WBA title to avoid GGG but that was only just after he'd won it and wanted a rematch against his only loss, a debatable loss to Mundine.:think

    What makes Beterbiev's win over Cloud really stand out is that he blew him out in 2 and it was only his 6th pro fight. Impressive win for Beterbiev.

    I've always been a Cloud fan but I'm glad Beterbiev did what he did in there. Cloud's been pretty stagnant and is too inactive to do much for the division where Beterbiev has added some excitement to it.

    Still, Beterbiev beat one bottom top 10 guy. Not too mention this should be Cloud's 4th straight loss and was coming off a year of inactivity. Koing him in 2 and so early in his career do add something to the win but beating this current version of Cloud only carries so much weight.

    Golovkin has beaten a number of guys on a simiar level to Cloud. There's no way Beterbiev's one win trumps what Golovkin has done so far. Not even close.

    I'd like to see Beterbiev fight Campillo or Chilemba next.

    Now let's hope the Showtime or HBO pick up and present Beterbiev. Beterbiev is exciting, à la GGG and Kovalev. He is skilled and a beast.

    I wonder what will happen when Beterbiev gets into a fight that lasts more than a few rounds. If he can fight for 12 rounds without gassing AND has as solid a chin/body as he seems to have, then the man has the makings of a LHW legend.

    Beterbiev's win is very impressive since it was his sixth fight and his opposition was mediocre before. Very, very impressive.

    Golovkin is at a different stage of his career. It is hard to compare them at this point.

    Geale = Cloud

    Their records are practically identical.

    But it's not early in his career. He's been semi-pro for 11-12 years.

    These guys who turn pro at 30 should be fully developed athletes. They all probably should have turned pro five or six years earlier, but now everyone is astonished when these guys who are almost ready to retire earn their first title in five fights.

    To me it's not astonishing. It's not impressive. Tyson picking up the strap when he was 20 was impressive. Wilfred Benitez picking one up at 17 is impressive. Duran picking one up at 21 was impressive. Pipino Cuevas 18, Tony Canzoneri 18, etc. These super amateurs are just doing what every good boxer should be doing at 28-30 years of age.

    What it does show is that the top level of amateur competition is much closer to professional level than it ever has been.

    Before, even top amateurs had to make noticeable adjustments. As the amateur game continues to become more and more pro style, the difference will still be there (see: Lomachenko-Salido, where Salido definitely fought in a way only a pro could), but the time it takes to adjust won't be nearly as long for many of the pro-friendly fighters.

    There will still be some guys who are much better suited to the amateurs, but the pro-friendly styles don't have near the transition they used to. In fact, with how coddled many prospects are, many of these older amateurs are coming in with more top level experience than the guys with 20-25 breezy fights.
