The effect of the non-scoring shots in some of those rounds were not immediate from the punch, but they were there - either stopping Bivol from scoring (and at times going into a defensive shell) giving Beterbiev more chance of winning the round, or - and I think this is key - doing damage, causing attrition which allowed Beterbiev to pour it on in the final rounds and keep Bivol very inactive and gain the nod in those rounds.

The effects of Beterbievs blocked, non-scoring shots were as follows IMO
    • Kept Bivol on the backfoot, and when thrown in extended periods of workrate, made Bivol look passive and lose the ring general battle in some of the closer rounds based on scoring alone.
    • Did damage and attrition that obviously affected Bivol in the later rounds

They should get rid of compubox, its a farce, use AI instead.
So many fights where people use compubox to justify a robbery, I swear it always favours the high profile boxer.

I had first two GGG Canelo fights, 8-4 and 9-3 to GGG, compubox stats were really close but Jabbr AI showed us the real picture, where GGG landed double the number of shots.

They are using it already. TNT and all of Saudi fights are using DeepStrike AI.
I think if we still get scorecards like this, they may remove human factor at all.

I don't think AI is ready to score fights yet, but seeing the scorecards we are getting lately, then it won't be long they introduce a completely different scoring or Boxing going to lose big time.

Ain't just this fight though. Loma - Haney, Usyk - AJ 2, Usyk - Fury, Bivol - Canelo. Almost all of the scorecards were garbage.

    Beterbiev 115-113 Bivol

I don't understand people saying Beterbiev only hit gloves all night. He landed plenty and the stats show that both men landed a fairly even number of shots by the end of the fight. That coupled with the fact Beterbiev was walking forward, throwing more & showing better ring generalship meant that he edged a few close rounds for me. Sometimes Beterbiev's shots were hitting gloves & the target simultaneously, and for me. Shots were getting through that guard often enough to score along with the front foot pressure

Bivol more accurate and eye-catching for sure, but on the back foot and looked the less comfortable of the two fighters. The first two rounds are what a dominant Bivol looks like, the rest of the fight did not go like that

For what it's worth I think 115-113 to either man, or 114-114 is a fair score. Anything wider for either man is inaccurate. Plenty of justification for a rematch

Landing more than double actual clean punches is not the stats show that both man landed fairly.
Again in total punches it's close, but based on the AI stats System:
So next time don't use the stats if you don't know them.
50 to 23 is not close at all. And this is the actual High Impact Clean punches. Not a comparison at all.
    Bivol robbed big time.
8-4, 7-5 at worst. This wasn't a draw at all.

I thought Beterbiev won but it was a close fight and could have gone either way, however when Bivol was doing good he stayed in the pocket too long and took his turn getting hit and Beterbiev kept the pressure on. Beterbiev finished stronger. A draw would have been a nice ending for both men, but Beterbiev deserved the win because he also kept coming and bounced back well, while Bivol faded and fought in spurts.

Not a direct response to OP.

A natural light-heavyweight who could campaign at 168 being viciously chastised for being on his bike (read, dictating when and how he engages against a monstrous punchers who in the 2012 Olympics outpointed Micheal Hunter and dropped Usyk whilst fighting them in the amateurs heavyweight division) is a bloodthirsty approach.

Beterbiev sweeping a round in which he was the clear active aggressor with Bivol essentially not contesting at all (e.g 11) is obviously understandable. Dimitri picking his moments to unload and moving being labeled as bike and flurries (when he clearly sat on his punches and oft prolonged the combination if he saw Beterbiev affected) is not.

It's not generalship on Arturs side if Bivol is never on the ropes or corners. If anything it's effective defense and generalship of his own style. It's actually a tremendous testament to Bivols high guard that he actually walked into and smothered Beterbiev.

Ineffective aggression is rarely appreciated as the other side of the coin as effective defense, despite the fact that some fighters absolutely cannot contest the move forward an throw criterion so clearly favoured and used when convenient, except for when you are Alvarez moving backwards because then the slickness counts a lot.

It's the Norton-Young tier of scoring difficulty except Bivol was much more assertive.

    Yes, scored it for Kenny.

    7-5 Bivol.

2 or 3 rounds which there was very little to separate them so I’m not one that will complain over the result.
