AB wins a decision. Joey has some good moments, his movement keeps him away from MOST of AB's shots but
not all of them. Joey goes down at least once. At 175 it's a bridge too far for JC.

The question we should be asking is how much of a beatdown will Calzaghe be able to weather before his team or the referee calls off the match? I vote round 5. I can't see it going past that, not considering what Beterbiev has done to bigger, stronger dudes than Calzaghe in that same time frame or less, like Joe Smith Jr.

Winning almost every round ? He was down on the cards at the time of the stoppage for a start...

Think it's you that needs to rewatch the fight. Beterbiev had his hands full with Yarde... was getting hit repeatedly, whilst getting cut and buzzed during the fight.

Calzaghes retirement pot stint at 175lbs should be regarded as just that , By then Joe was a shadow of his former self with one leg in his silk pyjamas and he still prevailed due to a career long talent of adaptability , 175lbs wasn't his chosen weight division so yea at L/Heavy at the end of his career I see Joe losing but still only just .

This. No shame in a career 168 pounder losing to vicious career 175 pounder. The weight class does indeed matter. P4P means **** all in a real life ring.

It's not a video game. Beterbiev is THE LHW champion of the world. Calzaghe was a 168 pounder.

Props to Joe for his achievements - but I think 175lbs against AB would be too big a bridge to cross.

I think he could have achieved much more but that he never really pushed himself in his earlier career when he WAS in his prime.

Joe had a very good start to his career and could certainly bang but after his hand problems developed he spent a long period in the doldrums defending the WBO title just earning that's not to say he didn't want to face the best it's just how his career was panning out , he changed his style to compensate for his reduced power and finally unified the WBO & IBF when he in effect gave Jeff Lacy a career ending beating , it's every fighters dream to become unquestionably the best in the world in their chosen division and he did just that v the Wbc & Wba Champion the classy Mikkle Kessler , the L/Heavyweight business imo was just that , an impending retirement cash grab and a farewell to the boxing world in America , the 175 lbs title was just a hard earned bonus before riding off into his fanacially secure sunset .

LHW is not Joe's natural habitat. He did beat the ancient Hopkins (20 year career 1988-2008) and RJJ, but he would lose to Beterbiev; by knockout.

Love Calzaghe but don't see how he can keep Beterbiev off him. Saying he would Lacy him is laughable. Lacy wasn't anywhere near the fighter Beterbiev is. Joe was tough mentally, physically and was great at adapting mid fight but there's just too much going against him here. Going up to LHW and beating a past it RJJ and Hopkins is one thing. Beterbiev is different riddle altogether.

Joes lopsided convincing win against an older but still very game Hopkins has aged very well indeed, but there's nothing in that or the Jones fight to suggest that he has a good chance at beating Beterbiev.

But let’s be real. Lacy is not close to Beterbiev. Lacy was a hypejob and had fought no one close to the level of Beterbievs resume. Beterbiev is the real deal.

I agree that he could well do so.

They would each be each others biggest challenge.

    Like I said above :

When Calzaghe faced undefeated Lacy (21-0-0, 18 KOs), most pundits an easy KO victory for the American.

Instead, Jeff got completely destroyed, and a host of commentators then decided he had been overrated and was never that good to begin with.

He was not a hype job, he just got ruined by one fighter.

    Beterbiev is
unquestionably better than Lacy, but Joe is among the most underrated on here.

Hen took Bernard's linear title. Folks said Bernard was just old.

A good while later, Bernard shut out Tarver, a man some fools on here said would destroy Calzaghe.

Far from being finished, Bernards best wins were at LHW all close to, or after the Calzaghe bout.

Calzaghe / Beterbiev would have been an interesting and competitive fight.
