Not a mismatch by skill but I do think it's a nightmare mismatch by styles. Patterson was obviously a great boxer but his chin always causes me consternation when I think of Floyd in fantasy matchups. I have Beterbiev knocking Floyd out in the middle rounds. Cus D'Amato is not happy with this matchup.
I think that the non-championship version of Patterson from the late 60s/early 70s would win. He was really able to box and survive better against hard hitting heavyweights by that time.
Beterbiev was on Bambi legs vs Callum Johnson with one left hook if Patterson landed his trademark left hook on Beterbiev he would be out for the count. I'm not as high on Beterbiev regarding his H2H ability as some people he's very good don't get me wrong. But Patterson is on a whole different level to anyone Beterbiev has fought in regards to the combination of blinding handspeed and KO power.
Going with Floyd. This obsession with Beterbiev being able to knock out heavyweights is getting out of hand
I've got Beterbiev here, his guard is too hard to exploit and he can take it when he needs to. The power and strength discrepancy here is notable and i think Beterbiev has the better chin as well. This is on top of Beterbiev's masterful skillset. Wont be easy though, he might have to get off the canvas to win
Beterbiev knocks him out after losing some early rounds. Questioning Beterbiev's durability is lunacy.
Interesting matchup. Patterson's chin has me doubting he can go 12, nevermind 15. But Patterson's hand speed would be something Beterbiev hasn't seen before. Patterson weighed 182 vs Moore and 189 vs Liston, so with same day weigh in the weight difference would be negligible. Don't think this fight goes the distance, but it's a barnburner while it lasts. My best guess is it's a 50/50 fight, but if you put a gun to my head Patterson's chin has me giving the slightest edge to Beterbiev.
0:22 imagine that's Patterson landing that left hook he didn't know where he was for like 10 seconds and was on bambi legs. Beterbiev has a good chin but it's not granite like say Golovkin, Canelo, in the modern era. This content is protected
Beterbiev improved his defence tremendously since that fight. He clearly didn't have much respect for Callum Johnson either, so went looking to blast him out and got sloppy. Beterbiev was barely even hurt yet everybody makes a big fuss out of this KD like it's some huge condemnation of Beterbiev's chin, durability, or defence. People make a mountain out of a molehill of this KD. Beterbiev takes a shot far better than Patterson anyway, who was steamrolled and dropped a number of times in his career.
