Lewis vacated the belt in September 2002. Byrd defeated Tua in August 2001. The tournament, which Byrd won, was originally set in place to name the mandatory. After Lewis vacated instead of facing Byrd, Chris fought Holyfield for the vacant strap.

I can remember watching this fight and thinking Sam would bulldoze Vitali because of the time out...

We did this in a separate thread like two days ago. I said Peter was a favorite and someone else dug up odds that said Vitali was like +150.

Wiki has Klit 1-4 on fave to win. Boxrec has Vitali +175 favorite. TK Stewart says Vitali was fave.

Everywhere i go Vitali is fave. I haven't seen him at 1000-1 at any rate.

The dude said Lewis already had a plans of dropping the IBF belt when he wasn't even the champion, I don't think the facts matter to that guy.

He runs around calling everyone pedant and making it up as he goes. He's been trolling in here for years always pushing modern (in a classic forum) down everyone's throats for maximum attention and effect. Everyone knows Vitali's record is seriously lacking in top shelf wins.

Age has nothing to do with physical condition. Was Any Ruiz Jr at his best in the Joshua rematch? Was Buster at his best against Holyfield?
Was Tyson at his best against Holyfield? There were around the same age at the time.
James DeGale was on his way out at 30 and retired by 32. Froch was still peak at 36/37.

Sam Peter was lazy and had a bad diet , often annoying trainers by feasting candy bars during camp.

If the body is not in top condition and it takes punishment , the downward spiral will be swift.

Thats what happened to Peter. Undisciplined , overweight and got hit too much. He was a fat overweight lump who tripped over his own feet against Vitali. In his next one he couldn't even beat Eddie Chambers who was also fat and out of shape.

Champion Emeritus allows WBC champs come back whenever they want. So what? Tony Bellew and loads other are Emeritus Champs

And when was Peter ever a reigning Champ? They say your not a true champ unless you make at least one defence. Peter took the belt from end of career Maskaev and lost then immediately lost it to Vitali. He never made a single title defence. The only "crap" being posted is from you

some quotes about peter at the time

I don't normally agree with you but yeah he definitely should have shed 10-20 pounds.

So you're believing Wikipedia, edited by Dino, over the article Boxrec is quoting. Got it.

+175 is close enough for thr line to have been the other way at certain points. Or I could just be wrong and Peter was a narrow favorite.

You're wrong cause it was Vitali who was the favorite. You literally have this info all over the internet.
