Tua was much more consistently successful, and when he won, he won convincingly. I go with him.

Ike was a virtual unknown when they fought. He only ever had one meaningful fight thereafter. He looked superb and won two excellent fights but that was all she wrote.

It was an awesome ko of Ruiz but Ruiz wasn't that much chop really. Rahman is just a good win.

Young beat Lyle x 2. He ran Ali extremely close. I agree Foreman was at a bad point but this win still absolutely flogs anything of Tua's. He also fought a tight controversial fight with Norton before he went trail horsing.

    I think i'd take Young's resume.

Can someone please tell me why a win over Rahman, a lineal champ, isn't as good as beating Ron Lyle or running Norton close?

Was Rahman lineal champ when Tua beat him? What would you say Rahman's best five wins where prior to Tua beating him? Where was Rahman rated by Ring at the time Tua beat him, if at all? How long was Rahman lineal for?

These questions should give us a reasonable idea of the worth of the win via context and balance.

Not a lot I can say to that. Salvador Sahcnez's win over Azumah Nelson does equally as poorly under the same restrictions though.

Young was end of year ranked 3 times.
    Tua 8
But Young was ranked in an exceptionally strong era,the 70's.
I don't think anyone would argue that Young was the better skilled boxer,he had the better fundamentals , but I've never been keen on him.I see him as a nearly man,who squandered a couple of chances through a lack of having a champion's mentality. There are a few close decisions that didn't go Young's way,was that always the fault of the judges or should he shoulder at least some of the blame for not being prepared to put the issue beyond doubt?
    I lean towards the latter.
Presented with a golden opportunity against a jaded ,fat disinterested, aging Ali,Young didn't close the show.
You can argue he did enough to win[I disagree ,]and the sight of him leaning out of the ring, deliberately putting his torso through the ropes to avoid punches left a bad taste in my mouth, and undoubtedly influenced the judges against him.
Neither Young nor Tua were great fighters,Jimmy might very well have outboxed Tua who was always prone to being outjabbed,at least for several rounds, but I would be rooting for Tua.
I want to be entertained when I watch a fight and Young never entertained me.
He will always remain a nearly man as far as I'm concerned.

I have no huuuuuge drama with that. Nelson put up a spirited and dare i even say brilliant challenge but at the end of the day he was very very green.

What we do have to add in is that Nelson did immensely more post Sanchez than Rahman ever did post Tua, and i mean immensely.

Well they're two completely different fighters so its hard to make a comparison.
As far as if they both fought it's 50/50 for me. Young would outbox him, but Tua had an iron chin great stamina and power, so he could also knock Young out late while being behind on points.
