Better All-Around Fighter: Primo Carnera or Riddick Bowe?

And I'm just trying to redirect the thread and add a little snippet of info which I think is germane to it. By the way that article refers to the champions between Tunney and Louis as the era of the "cheese champions". One champ getting a gift title win.One getting the title whilst sitting on the floor from a foul few saw,another grinned his way out of the title,and yet another may have had pressure from gangsters applied to the title holder for his benefit.

 

I just can't rate Sharkey too highly head-to-head, against many of the ATGs; especially, some of the modern-day SHW monsters.

Sharkey had advanced skills, for sure. The inconsistency has to count against him heavily in my book, though, because it cost him in his biggest fights.

 

Besides the Louis win I feel Sharkey has the better resume...I really wasn’t high on either to be honest (like Baer of that era) but Sharkey has some good wins.

 

I disagree here, Schmeling did better against the same competition than Sharkey did.

 

I wouldn't outright dispute that, off the cuff. All I'd say, for now, is that I think Schmeling has a case here.

 

So you don't see Sharkey beating huge and talented amateur Johnny_B?

I mean Sharkey won plenty of his big fights. Even discounting Schmeling, there's still Tommy Loughran, Young Stribling, and Harry Wills,

Carnera's a complete bum compared to Bowe.

 

They weren't his biggest fights though.

Look I am not saying Carnera was a great fighter, and yes some of his fights may or may not of been fix, but saying all that, it does not mean the guy can not fight, and when he landed right, he can tear a man's head off. I do not care what people claim about a fix fight for Sharkey II, but Carnera knock him the F out. Sharkey walked into that uppercut. It had more to do with Sharkey being a on and off fighter(He was off here) than Sharkey taking a dive imo.
