And even "top class left hook" may be a bit too generous. I think Galento's power has come to be grossly overrated in this forum.

True,I was trying,[maybe a bit too hard,] to be even handed,I think Tua had superior power to Galento.

    To put it bluntly.....
    This debate is ****ing ridiculous.
Those who voted for Galento should follow another sport.
Jesus H Christ, those that voted for Galento & Carnera in that other thread are beyond help.
What ****ing planet are you guys on?

No one can claim Galento didn't have a thirst, although it was not necessarily for the game.

Well this has been fun! I can’t wait for the next Carnera/Baer/Galento/Layne/Cleveland Williams/Lyle/Tua thread so we can finally agree that greats of the past with their exorbitant amount of fights make them superior....or wait a minute...is it the modern advancements in training and more readily aesthetically pleasing film that proves that modern is better and greats of the past are really mediocre....got my popcorn ready

He was viewed as the toughest contender for Louis, but also flopped against Louis. Perhaps Nova was just overrated in his own day. What did he do that was all that impressive other than stopping a fading Baer?

It seems reading about him that Nova was viewed by many as an underachieving head case.

I agree with the point that big wins are more important than consistency against second-tier fighters.

But my problem with using this for Galento against Tua comes to is it really more impressive to beat Lou Nova and Tommy Farr than Hasim Rahman, John Ruiz, and Oleg Maskaev? I don't think so, and Tua had the better overall career.

I think I have seen only Galento's fights with Louis and Baer.

Nova was stopped twice by Tami Mauriello,I don't see him getting past Rahman.

If you are asking, I voted for Tua in the poll.

Galento just looks like a crude punching bag to me. No defense at all to speak of. Baer doesn't have much more of a defense. In fairness, there were good boxers around like Louis, Conn, and Pastor.

Galento makes Max Baer look like a skilled technician. That says enough.
