Yes, he did, and considering the controversy around this win for him, that should tell you all you need to know with regards to the first fight.

If I ever use why come unironically, assume its a cry for help and I'm badly in need of an intervention, because I've lost the plot entirely and deserve to be committed. I can't imagined there'd ever be a scenario where I would use it unironically, the same applies to bae, swag, rofl, lmao, ramped up, ish, pwned the list is literally endless.

OP isn't accounting for age being a factor and the older boxer declining in the interval. Ray Robinson declined between matches with Gene Fullmer. Gene Fullmer declined during his trilogy with Dick Tiger. Harry Greb declined while fighting matches with Gene Tunney and Tiger Flowers.

And two near evenly matched fighters can trade teeter totter style in a trilogy with fighters alternating and taking every other fight like in Rafael Marquez vs Israel Vazquez, Tony Zale vs Rocky Graziano, Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield, Jeff Harding vs Dennis Andries, or Emile Griffith vs Benny Paret.

Forrest DID do better in the rematch, just still fell short of winning. And Tarver was a better boxer than Roy.
