Who do you think is the better boxer and puncher overall? Both were tall and lanky who can pack a punch and they had a similar fighting style.

Hmm, static stiff-legged plodder with a swiss cheese defence versus a multi-dimensional, mobile and offensively and defensively complete boxer-puncher.... Let's think.

Zarate and it's not close. The only edge for Arguello is probably his chin, which is a big edge to be fair, but there ain't much else.

I think body punching is the only edge Zarate has over Arguello in all honesty. And he was an amazing body puncher to be fair. Its weird watching a tall, lanky guy like that stand chest to chest with his opponent and beat the hell out of his stomach.

Without making an actual pick here, I have to agree that Zarate was indeed more than a slow, stalking "ko only" one dimensional type...it's just that Wilfredo Gomez made him look like one..which isn't alltogether fair in defense of Zarate.

Well even then, Zarate was doing much better at cutting off the ring and making an effort to lead than Arguello would have done against an opponent with similar talents.

Nah,Zarate also had much better footwork than Arguello. He wasn't quick by any means, but he was far better at cutting the ring off and a more effective inside/pressure fighter than Arguello.

    Arguello was the better bodypuncher.

I'm not as prepared to write off Arguello as some second class talent as some of you are. He was sure some "static stiff-legged plodder"...

I rate Zarate highly as well though.

Though I'm cool with your incessant need to distance yourself from my revolutionary attitudes as much as possible.
