Both have incredible physical gifts and get away with some things because of their speed, but both also have a good and very different skillset. To me, prime RJJ had great skills and ring awareness. His feet were always in a position to win a high speed game of chess and his balance was very good. He knew whay to throw and when to throw it. Although his athleticism was a big factor, it was his intellect that allowed him to use his gifts. Manny relies a lot on his speed and power, but he too knows how to pick his punches, and has a good awaressess and rythm to his attack. He can keep a tight guard, as can Roy, but like Roy is able to hold his hands low and get away with it because he is able to use his range well. His balance isnt always great, and he does seem to get confused when hes in with a good boxer. All things considered, I think that RJJ had a much greater skillset. He was almost always in control because he was always positioned good. Manny doesnt cut the ring off like Roy did and cant outbox a great boxer. Roy could. Both guys probably have greater skills than they are credited with, but I think Roy gets the nid in this department.
Roy never even came close to being outboxed until he was well past his best. Much higher ring IQ and execution than Manny.
Jones is , and not even close really. Jones boxing skill / IQ is very underrated . He got away with a lot of ****, but doesnt mean he wasn't skilled. He was an exceptional counter puncher, and had some of best instincts you'll ever see.
Prime for prime, Roy. Some people say "well he was just fast with good reflexes" well, duh! there is a boxing brain picking these punches and avoiding counters, ya fanny!
I agree completely. Ive just noticed that a lot of people here discredit his skill because he was so athletic. I honestly dont think it is close at all either
