Your disrespectful hostility towards them instead of being ojective is what makes this board ridiculous. You're so delusional to your god (cotto), you didn't see the Pac voter's point that he was fighting at 130 a year ago - go figure the reason why he earned the right to fight alot bigger fighters (?).
If the standard for a skilled fighter is based entirely on the mold of JMM then there must be something wrong. For one, even when JMM is fighting someone as crude as Jaca, he still tend to eat lots of leather. Yiou could even say Santa Cruz had more impressive fight against Casa prior of course to the KO and Nate Campbell actually won more rounds against Diaz than JMM. Skillset is both offensive and defensive, as well as learned and the ones that we are born with or those GOd-given skills. You can not say Mozart is not skilled because he did not developed his composition skills Pac is more of an offensive fighter but he does not get hit a lot because he knows how to maintain a gap and close that gap when needed like punching. He may not be a description of a skilled fighter by JMM or Mayweathers's standard because those fighters are defensive minded and counterpunchers. But heck, if he is demolishing fighters left and right, there must be some skill involved in it. Otherwise evrybody could just do it. Judah is fast or probably even faster than Pac but nowhere was he as successfull as Pac. All parts had to complement each other and there are things that may be missing in that equation. Otherwise, we will have a fighter os Pacquiao caliber very 5-10 years. You could call that natural talent or god-given capablility but then again, it had to be developed and need to put other things that you never had to work with it. Like counterpunching, which is never a natural thing because instinct tells us to go out swinging all the time, has to be incorporated into equation (I know this because I had been in fight when I was 7 or 8 years old and basically all you do is keep punching). That is a learned skill. The thing is that we are probably hanged up on those learned skills not those ones that come naturally that when we do not see those things like shoulder roll, bobbing and weaving, blocking, etc, they are not skilled. An unskilled person can not make Barrera look like an amateur or came untouched against David Diaz (eventhough many say he is the weakest among the 135 champions, this guy has two hands and should by principle at least connect his punches even once in a while). Or how about making Ledwaba, a supposedly very skilled fighter look somewhat the opposite.
Nice post mate ... very logical and enlightening... Pac is an atg and very skillful in demolishing elite fighters... Cotto is a good boxer with skill in collecting vacant titles... fighting bums. But this will be a good fight since he has advantage in size/weight and maybe power.
atschatsch hope you won't change your avatar after cotto recieve a beating from pac and will make excuses
Ive just got back from watching parts of pacquiao-oscar in slow mo. What i have found is fascinating. Firstly the good points for pacquiao. He is an extremely clever fighter in that ring. When the fight settles down at around rd4-5 pacquiao is throwing in feints all over the place and clocking oscar cleanly. He is also blocking oscar movement with his feet (keeping his lead foot in between oscars). Bad points. Im still not convinced at pacquiaos ability to handle multiple blows in a row at this weight. Jabs are a problem and it appears pacquiao sometimes loses concentration in a fight. I saw this is the hatton fight as well. When pacquiao gets hit clean he puts his hands down, backs off or holds his opponent and takes a deep breath. Read what you want into this. One more thing to mention about pac. He fights best when he is constantly doing something as i still believe he has a lower ring IQ compared to someone like mayweather or calzaghe. Whether this doing something is bobbing, weaving, throwing feints or range finder jabs, he needs to stay active as all of these things make him damn near untouchable. On a more positive note pacquiaos ring IQ is getting close to that of mayweather. Opponents simply can do the same thing over and over again against him even within the same round. My conclusion is that cotto is a naturally much more bigger man than pacquiao but he simply doesnt have the skill to beat him. I just believe that pacquiao will be hitting cotto from so many different angles and setting him up with his feet so many times that cotto wont be able to get off those fight changing combinations. I see a decison victory for pacquiao, it all depends on how cotto holds up and whether he can raise him game.
I cant not exactly say Pacquiao just yet his last two fights he was not forced to box, with Miguel he is going to have to box because if he comes in wild he will get countered, this fight well you should just hold off on the poll until after the fight that should tell you.
You still at this ****? Speed is a Skill! FFS Again ..Technique is different from Skill Michael Jordans Vertical leap = Skill Only morons would disagreee skill n skill [skil] 1 cleverness at doing something, resulting either from practice or from natural ability
About equal. They both have intangibles and both are beatable. I think its harder to beat Pac than it is to beat Cotto. Both are tough sturdy guys. Cotto can dish and take so can Pac. But Cotto is bigger and Pac is faster and has more active. It will just be a hell of a fight. Cotto is good against speed guys so I think that will shock the *******s. Its not like Cotto has not dealt with it before. If Cotto can cut off the ring before by about round 5-6 and get Pac on the defensive he wins. If Pac gets red hot early and gets into rhythm then he wins. Depends on what happens.
PAC does.....it's b/c his style is choppy. Boxing fans are use to classic boxer styles that are more smooth and fluid. Cotto has that style from his AM background and foundation early on in the AM circut. PAC just doesn't have that kind of style that most are use to seeing. It's not that he lacks skills, he just doesn't have the smooth kind of style. He's constantly bouncing, he's constantly moving his head and he's darting in and out from all angles. It works and his style does incorporate a game plan.
SweetScience and VARG thinks 80 or so forum voters that interpret skills where natural ability is a part of - is an idiot.
He does have an idea how to do it. He just chooses not to. Bad choice if you ask me, but he only resorts to clinching when there's no other option (like when he gets hurt).
