Degale Also Back then Degale would have UD old man Froch. Groves almost always soils himself under the lights, Degale wins the rematch
Degale. Bar their initial fight which was close Degale went on to fight the better fighters and have better wins along with his losses. Bar his victory over Degale Groves has beaten who?
Easily Groves De Gale never lived up to his early promise, and didn’t live the life of a champion. A disappointment. Groves can be proud of his career and what he achieved.
When you read the OP, Their careers look on a similar level, maybe even a slight edge towards Degale's as he's never been stopped and had less losses. But that's on paper. My general feeling is that Groves can feel more satisfied with his career to date. Up until Friday night, Groves had a decent spell of time where had a more than a strong claim to call himself #1 of the division. I think Degale had a weaker claim for a shorter time after the draw with Jack (I thought Jack just edged it) and Jack moved up and Degale's claim to #1 felt like he got it by default IMO. Then he went 1-1 with Truax and his stock fell even after he won the rematch. And include Medina to one of Degale's bigger wins where he came away with little credit because of how he performed. Groves has came away with credit in all his defeats, even the one where he got knocked out cold. I think the in years to come the history books will show they had a pretty similar level of career and legacy. But from personal memory, I'd say Groves enjoyed a longer and better purple patch in his career, with some bigger fights than Degale had, and has a win over him to have the last word in the argument. But if we're judging by the warrior's code, then it's Groves and it's not even close.
Degale Robbed in the Groves fight. Got a draw against a guy who beat Groves. Had more title defences and wins against better opposition. Also Olympic success. Both can be proud of there boxing careers.
This thread just goes to show how split the opinion is on this. The rematch makes so much sense. Big money fight for both, the winner puts himself back in the mix, it settles a personal grudge, and settles the question of the thread. Let's get it on!
Groves, easily. Degale failed to deliver a career defining fight at world level, and Groves has the better resume. Degale never lived up to the promise after a fantastic amateur career, in my opinion in part to loyally/stubbornly sticking with the same (poor) trainer in Jim Mcdonnell.
Both are unknowns to the US public. Eubank Jr. is a complete nobody in the US and was wildly overrated in the UK. The fight against Degeale while they were both prospects is unimportant outside of the UK. When you break down their resumes, Degeale is the grittier fighter who delivers better results at the top level. And he's still a reigning titlist. It's like comparing Cooney to Trevor Berbick. Cooney had the big fight, and lost, but Berbick put together a better resume while basically being an ugly fighter.
Groves has looked good even in defeat... I prefer his style & he doesn't take rounds off time & again during fights.. That Truax loss hurt Degale... Callum Smith>Both.
