His very consistent fight night weight was 170, many 154 pounders come in about that weight. In fact, Crawford weighed 169.8 for his debut at 154 whilst being super lean and he's supposed to be a small guy according to many Whilst it's true many of his opponents where the weights were announced were roughly his size, Jacobs was about 180 according to Vic Conte, Lemieux was 5lbs heavier both of whom very big punchers, and Rubio who has a KO 86% was 8lbs heavier. Clenelo would've had a significant weight advantage in their fights too Bivol was 3-5lbs heavier than Clenelo Berlangy and Mung looked much bigger than Clenelo You can also make the argument that Clenelo was better defensively than GGG and GGG has never been dropped fighting to the age of 40 and was already past his prime when he fought Clenelo. Will Clenelo be able to make it to 40 without getting dropped? The cracks are starting to show IMO And that Clenelo is a PED cheat And GGG's extremely extensive amateur career has to be factored in too. He fought a lot of good guys and at the highest level for a long time and he made it to gone 40 y/o without being dropped or stopped amateur or pro. Tons of the greats and top fighters have been knocked out or stopped in the amateurs, let alone dropped Neither has ever been dropped and they both have iron chins but the discussion needed more context which wasn't being considered
Crawford barely looked any smaller than Canelo, many are in fact surprised with how big he seems to be after the latest match. Those were GGG’s biggest and hardest punching opponents and although they had a significant size advantage, with the exception of Daniel Jacobs (who Canelo also fought) they all looked to be at least in the same weight class and body frame as GGG. Bivol was only 3-5 lbs heavier than Canelo but he was lean and shredded while Canelo looked almost fat with how bulked up he was, Bivol very clearly had a much bigger frame and body structure. Then you have Munguia and Berlanga, who were pushing 200 lbs and looked 2 weight classes bigger than Canelo with arms the size of his head. GGG never fought people THAT much bigger than him, he fought with some that were a heavier but he never outright looked a kid in the ring, closest was Jacobs who Canelo also fought. Again, you can maybe argue GGG being tougher due to worse defense, longevity etc (I don’t care for amateur careers) but size and opposition isn’t even a question for me, that goes to Canelo all day long.
Same tier but GGG likey has the more armored chin, but Canelo the more recuperative. When purely iron-chinned fighters finally get clipped they mostly finally go down, or mostly don't recover, or finally get KOed cold.
That's because contrary to what many will try and have us believe Crawford is not a small guy, is not fighting bigger or much bigger guys when he moves up, and even at the sixth weight than the one he started out at he weighed in at 167.5 looking as lean as a hungry greyhound with very low body fat. I wasn't in the least bit surprised because I've been telling everyone this for years Bivol might have had a bigger frame but in terms of weight there was 3-5lbs difference and that PED bulked up Clenelo's punch resistance is augmented by that weight/bulk Crawford and Clenelo looked in the same weight class but we're supposed to believe Crawford's a 135-147 pounder Mung and Berlangy, as said, looked much bigger but they came up from 140-147 and 160 respectively so they would've been smaller when facing career 168 pounders according to many Extremely extensive amateur careers put miles on the clock too and as said many of the legends of the sport, let alone greats and world champions, have been knocked out in the amateurs or stopped and dropped and most had way less amateur fights than GGG who was never dropped or stopped I'm not arguing that Clenelo hasn't fought better opposition or that he didn't fight in more divisions against bigger guys albeit he turned pro at 15. Here's GGG at 15 vs a future Olympic gold medalist and excellent fighter. Had he turned pro at that age it would have been at a much lower weight than MW This content is protected
Are the people voting that GGG has a better chin the same people who say Canelo isn’t REALLY a puncher because he hasn’t KO’d someone in years? Canelo’s chin is more proven, it would seem based on resume. The caveat is that his defense is better.
Didn't Cotto's brother have Canelo on Bambi legs early in his career? There's no denying he has an iron chin, but GGG has never looked close to being phased by a punch. Canelo hit him with a haymaker from the Gods, one of the cleanest shots he's ever landed, and Golovkin didn't even blink. Got to go for GGG on this one.
People say G was never rocked but pretty sure he was early in his career. Not canelo cotto status but he was rocked. Anyways, while I do lean towards G having the better chin, Canelo took some good shots from Golovkin, which is the hardest puncher either of them took flush shots from, so Ill go ahead and say theyre in the same bracket.
