Well put. Patterson’s KDs otherwise might make it seem hard to defend his chin (which I’ve defended before). But a KD, no matter how many suffered, isn’t a KO - there is that type of fighter who can be knocked down but who also gets back up for the most part and that’s all there is to it. Doesn’t mean Patto’s chin was great but it certainly wasn’t glass IMO. And while a fighter might hit the deck, we can still give credit for recuperative powers where applicable. There’s also some due qualification to several of the KDs Patto suffered (Ingo owns many and the most) and Patto’s early style lent to his being caught more, including when off balance. I think there was a KD ruled in the Bonavena fight which was actually slip also. If you saw a guy in the street get dropped for a moment only to arise and come back with a vengeance and clean the other guy up - you’d think “that’s one tough hombre”. Nice to have minimal KDs suffered in a career, but sometimes people over critique fighter who did suffer a few KDs even if most of the knockdowns didn’t result in their ultimately being KO’d and/or losing.
yes because already he did get hit by multi of punches from the peak performance of Foreman. one of top punchers ever in all the history.
from 1 uppercut Douglas got hit with? why? what is basis for saying it? Norton took a big combination from Foreman & get up. monster hits. Douglas was stopped by lesser boxer far lesser puncher than 3 out of 4 Norton stoppage defeaters .
there is not the logic. just might be Douglas has to be better chin & the super human attributes at his best for Tyson legend continues . this must be reason to say Douglas has better chin . but evidence over career show his chin is average/good . most can be said is same as Norton only. not better
Norton may be should have stoppage loser to more Mike White & David Bey & Tony Tucker & Lou Saverese . journeyman or average puncher. Holyfield only fair good puncher alsi he need more below monster puncher in the record. only he has Garcia
Remember too, after the first KD, Norton went down onto the ropes (should’ve been another count but the ref didn’t apply one) - when Norton stood up, arms down, Big George got in a big free left swing - and the ref just ignored that and let the fight continue. Old George probably would’ve been more courteous and held off but as it was, it was still a decent shot (weren’t they all from Foreman?) and Ken took it - that was just before the monstrous follow up that put Ken down but he still got back all be he in no condition to continue.
People who actually watched the fight know Tyson wasn't able to land that many solid hits on Douglas per round. But then they'll use this fight as evidence of Douglas having a superb chin to give Tyson a pass for not knocking him out. Pretty easy to see right through the agenda. The easiest explanation is that Tyson simply got his ass kicked and Douglas fought the better fight with decent defense to avoid getting nailed too often.
Norton MAY have gotten up but he certainly wouldn't have survived the follow-up no matter how brief it was.
