Well, I know that Tua, Tyson, Morrison, Ruddock, Grant, Briggs, Bruno and Vitali all KO'd plenty of guys and didn't dent Lenny's alleged soft beard.

Then you know the question that I must ask next.

If we take away their wins over Lewis, what would lead us to think that McCall and Rahman were particularly dangerous punchers?

I fully accept that Lewis fought a lot of dangerous punchers, and survived their power.

The trouble is that he seems to have lost to the wrong ones!

Who did Cleveland Williams or Shavers KO? Yet we know they were huge punchers.

The real question is did Lenny get stopped because of a soft beard or because he was doing stupid sh*t like playing with Rahman with his hands down and got backed to the ropes with no guard?

In Williams case there is little evidence from his record, but a mountain of evidence from opponent testimony.

You either take it or leave it.

In Shavers case there is ample evidence from both, so I would reject the analogy.
This is also a legitimate question.

Rahman and McCall were the same weight or lower than Buddy Baer. I wonder what his basis for claiming they have loads more power is.

Baer didn`t catch Louis with a great shot like Rahman and McCall knocked Lewis out with and those shots would have sparked Louis as both guys hit harder than Schmeling, also being the same size doesn`t mean you punch with the same power as another fighter, Carnera was the same height as Lewis and weighed more yet Lennox punched sharper and harder than Primo, Lennox also took shots off Bruno that would have stopped Louis, but Frank would never have landed those shots on Joe anyway and Louuis was far better defensively than Lennox, no comparison at all, stick with the chins and shoe size.

Baer didn`t punch harder than Bruno.

Brilliant vid, Steward was something else, Lewis`s right hands here were like the clumsy right hooks Eubank Jr threw v Groves, it was only a matter of time before Lennox got countered.

The right hand Shavers caught Holmes with would have knocked Lewis out and was harder than any punch Louis was ever hit with, Shavers didn`t knock class fighters out because they either had a chin like li or Holmes or he was busy getting beat because he wasn`t good or quick enough to land his KO shots.

Tua caught Lewis flush with a hook and nothing happened, Tyson landed hardly anything and neither did Morrison or Ruddock who was knocked out before he could land any of his 'smash' hooks/uppercuts, Grant was lousey at landing shots and went early also, Briggs rocked Lewis but wasn`t good enough and got stopped first, Bruno caught Lewis flush like Tua did and no response again and Vitali landed some good shots, so I`d say you are probably right about his beard and he certainly took shots that Louis wouldn`t have.

Simple Louis was KO`d by softer right hands to from Schmeling than the punches that Lewis took and Ali and Holmes took shots as hard as the ones that stopped Lewis and harder than Max`s shots against Joe, four different chins, Ali and Holmes had amazing chins better than that of Lennox while Lewis had a betteer chin than Joe, three diffeent levels of chin.

Not exactly. I just felt compelled to help you, by providing some context for your pot-shotting (in this case, more a one-two combo) at Lewis...

    ..."awful boxing moves"
..."his skills there were embarrassingly bad"

 - You never miss an opportunity.

I agree. I don't think excuses need to be made for that performance - he got KTFO by a pretty average heavyweight.
Lewis was dreadful in that fight. He was ill-prepared and sloppy.

I think it hurts his legacy. If Lewis had held onto the title uninterrupted between 1999 and 2003 he'd be an almost automatic top 5 choice. As it is, he's certainly a strong contender for a spot somewhere in the top 10 but he's not an automatic selection.

Actually Louis was hit flush many times by Schmeling and essentially collapsed at the end of what he could endure ... after the fight Schmeling raved about Louis' chin and the amount of punishment he could absorb.
