Better chin, Marciano or Ali?

ali fought the likes of foreman, liston, shavers, lyle, williams and quarry without hitting the deck.he's the clear winner

 

Both have solid, masculine jawlines. I guess its preference really, which texture do you prefer grinding against your own whilst you kiss? Marciano had a more rough and rugged looking chin, where as Ali's appeared more rounded and smoother, yet shaped just as strongly. I'd say generally you'd be splitting hairs to pick one over the other unanimously, 1,000 women asked, half of them like it rough. 1,000 men asked, half of them are metrosexual. Its a pick'em

 

Ali fought much bigger and better punchers so he is more proven ... Marciano's proved to be excellent based on who he fought and did not duck any opponent. It is pure speculation other than to say who knows ?

People will ultimately believe what they want to believe. We're expected to believe that Greb was the second coming of Superman despite no actual footage surfacing, and not to many people question that. I'm sure everything you hear about old timers is over-stated. Boxing people are really into their hyperbole, especially Emmanuel Steward, who can't make an observation about one of his fighters without including the words "of all time". Let's hope that 100 years from now that Manny's quotes won't be put in textbooks.

 

Who really knows? Both showed that they could take a good shot.

Ali survived shots from Liston x2, Patterson x2, Frazier x3, Norton x3, Foreman, Lyle, Shavers, and others. Ali was also more elusive though. He didn't get hit flush very often vs. Liston or Patterson. He was dropped by Frazier and Shavers plus his jaw was broke vs. Norton.

Marciano was down twice... once vs. Walcott, once vs. Moore.

It's a toss up IMO but Ali has more examples to use.

Great point. But when I say hyperbole I'm referring to the writing style. I've read books about those times and the style of writing was still that 40's and early 50's was exaggerated and sensationalized just a bit.

 

I'd had to day Ali. I don't think Marciano could take punches on the chin from Foreman and Shavers and still stand.

 

You could say that Ali fought THE heaviest handed fighters in history... Foreman, Liston, lyle,Frazier, Williams,and the bomber himself, Earnie Shavers. I always said that the reason Ali is the way he is today is because he took ALL the big shots from this bunch, and came back to win. Where as I don`t feel any of these guys could take waht Ali took and last,much less win. Marciano had a great chin as well, but he didn`t face the heavy artillery Ali faced. Unless you bring Cockell into the mix...

I though the Rock's best punchers were Walcott, Moore, Charles and Layne. Perhaps Louis.

 

Louis hit harder than Layne. If Layne had fought Louis around 1951, I favor Joe to knock out Layne. Louis at 214lb hit harder than little 185lb Ezzard Charles too, particularly with one punch.
