Funny part is Gomez is considered one of the greatest punchers ever and the best he could do is buckle Sal's knees, not even able to change the expression on Sal's face.

Exactly and if you heard the interview in Spanish like I said, Sal did recognize that it hurt.

But, at the gym when I was 12, one of the first things they taught me was no matter what, no matter how bad it hurts, you just dont move your facial expression.

I had one habit that I did out of sportsmanship which was to nod or smile at the opponent in appreciation when they hit me hard, but I never made an expression of pain. Luckily my opponents were also amateurs except for my impromptu spar session with Alberto Mercado, so they did not pick on my habit lol...

Which I now recognize it was me being nice but also me being stupid haha.

Many thanks for that. SRL always made it a point of beginning his training camps always below the weight limit he would be competing at, as did others like fitness fanatic Griffith.

Given that, and how porky Gomez became in retirement, I wonder how Wilfredo might've done with Sal if in the same peak condition he'd certainly have been in for Lopez.

He buckled Sal after being very seriously battered, as you've confirmed, yet couldn't follow up. (Danny's weight never really went up in retirement. Cuevas is another who has always looked good to me, and Palomino, who may still be running marathons for all I know. Some guys simply don't struggle with weight. BTW, Lopez was rather gutsy in his two extended beatings by Sal. I think his chin was a bit underrated.)

No disrespect intended to Juan but wasn't he famous for his Chuvalo “punching bag” type reputation?
