They both survived shots from big bangers. Who had the better beard and why?

I'm not sure if Dempsey ever fought someone who could punch as hard as Ruddock. I give the nod to Tyson.

Dempsey was only ko'd once and many believed that fight was fixed, tyson had the ruddock fights dempsey had the wild bull of the pampas, Dont forget in jack's day the gloves were pretty much mittens. You could make a case for both

That's why this is a close one. Tyson was cracked by some huge men. So was Dempsey. Dempsey was even knocked out of the ring and climbed back through the ropes to knock out Firpo.

Dempsey competed in an era of five ounce gloves. Tyson's were twice that padded. Jack sometimes competed without a mouthpiece. Just a thought.

I think we must keep in mind that although today's gloves are more padded, they're wrapped in such a way that it in some ways makes it just as devastating to get hit by as lightly padded gloves.
    That wrapping is like concrete.

The wrapping in the ol' days was like concrete too.

There are some allegations that it was concrete !

    Both had great chins.

Dempsey was knocked down more times. Tyson was stopped more times.

Who did Dempsey actually prove his chin against? I suppose there was Firpo who had no technique, all in all the punchers were either very small or not very good

    Co sign.

Tyson would have been the GOAT against Dempseys bar room brawlers, lol.

I can say with absolute certainty that Dempsey never ever took the shots Tyson took during the course of his career and kept on ticking............even totally washed up he took Lewis flush right hands..............Rahman only took one and went napping to put it into proper perspective.
