Thats probably the closest classification you could give Tyson. Definitely not a "swarmer" or "infighter" his best range was mid range and was not the type to unleash a barrage of non stop volume punches

Kind of 50/50 for me. Young Dempsey had those cat like moves on his feet and could get really low and spring up very fast. Very good unconventional head movement too.
Frazier was more compact. Took smaller steps and was also light on his feet. Real funky head movement. I really cant pick between the two.

Definitely Frazier. Dempsey had a good Bob and weave but got hit by every right hand thrown at him, even when his opponents would telegraph it. Frazier had probably the best head movement in heavyweight history.

Dempsey leaned to far forward as he moved bringing his head closer to Tunney`s jab meaning it was harder to evade because there was less time to see it coming Frazier did a great job of evading Ali`s jab in their first fight and Dempsey wouldn`t have at all.

Pointing out Dempsey weaknesses based on Tunney fights is like looking at Frazier from the second Foreman fight and conclude he's not that good defensively.

He was for the first few rounds of the fight. Tyson could in-fight, he had a shirt hook and a mean uppercut. His biggest problems were focus and resolve, the defense was solid in his prime.

To be fair Dempsey iced Fulton in a matter of seconds. It’s not like his defence got tested that much in that one

You think they compare to the Iron Frazier fought? All Nostalgia aside. Can you point me to a fight or video of that shows Dempsey slipping and sliding the way Joe did. Against guys with coordination and speed.

We don't have much of a peak Dempsey on footage, but he showed flashes of brilliance against Gibbons (excellent boxer) and Brennan (not so much).
