Both not known for their defense. Who would you say was the better defender in your opinion? Even though Pac got KO'd early in his career and then by JMM later on he was really underrated with his defensive skill and has obviously improved it over time. JMM also has really underrated defense, was never KO'd in his career but has been known to get KD more often even against lower tier fighters (but still recover). Tough to choose between the two.
Marquez has good defense, but Pacquiao's got better defense. While no defensive wizard, Pacquiao's defense is actually really, really underrated. He's actually quite elusive and difficult to hit. I can't see him getting dropped by guys like Katsidis or Alvarado. Only guy to drop him in close to 20 years is Marquez. Shane and Horn body threw him to the ground, though.
two different styles Manny likes to move in and out Marquez likes to stay in the pocket and duck and weave Id go Manny Marquez gets dropped a lot
It's hard to say. Marquez for all of his punches in his arsenal is only effective as the counter puncher. His peer like Morales was equally adept at taking the lead and being the counter puncher. That's why he was the only one who could beat a prime Manny. Because hes the better and more versatile fighter. Pacs style is tailor made for JMM. To be honest JMM is a limited fighter versatility wise. But he is incredible at what he does.
JMM was the best technician of his era, better than Pac or May. He just didn't have their physical gifts.
The best counter puncher for sure. He was also slow which probably impeded his attack. That said for a guy so technically gifted I wonder why he was unable to take the lead. His peers were Hamed, Pacquiao, Morales and Barrera. They could all counter and take the lead to varying degrees. JMM simply could not effectively take the lead at all. Even against underwhelming opposition like Medina for example. Well I walk that back a little. Hamed wasnt all that good at taking the lead either. But he was still better at it than Marquez. JMM was a limited fighter on terms of style. He just did what he did.
