Even a chubby Toney is brilliant defensively many times. The equivalent of what JT did for Mayweather is for Mayweather to move back to 154 and fight Martinez, Cotto, and Angulo. If he does that I will call him a better defensive fighter than Toney.

Agreed. If Floyd had Toney's balls I'm not sure if he would've been ko'd but he would've lost. Also, what top techinician at his weight did Mayweather make miss frequently(refering to Mccallum)? What athletic talent like a prime Jones did Mayweather make look bad at times(not Floyd's fault but still)?

Toney can do those guards too just look at the Nunn & Reggie Johnson fights as sometimes he did the high guard. Both fighters rely heavily on the shoulder roll though. JT used a mixture of all of these in the fight with Reggie though Reggie got around the guard well with some good shots. Toney fired back in this fight he had heart as usual.

Grown men calling another man by his self-imposed nickname 'pretty' is very sad.

Mayweather has the better all rounds defense.

I remember that fight. It was the one and only time James was legitimely knocked down in a fight, and he was really really hurt. The Roy Jones KD was more of a push when James was off balance, same with the Sam Peter KD, he wasn't hurt there.

    Reggie Johnson gave Toney hell.

I still do. I also liked his performances in the Holyfield, Rahman 2, and Peter 1 fights. I may get his career set most likely.

Agree with your asessment of Toney's KDs. Roy Jones mainly body bumped him and Peter pushed him. Reggie Johnson was a very good fighter in his time and remains the only fighter to truly put him down and arguably seriously hurt him. Peter hit Toney with quite a bit of rabbit punches that I feel had more of an effect than the legal punches.

Toney was good as a middleweight and super middleweight. The difference is discipline and staying in shape. Floyd is a great example of this, whereas Toney is one of the worst.

what seperates them is that toney comes forward looking to knock you out and floyd boxes on the back foot so one will take more punches than the other. id say there about equal considering how they box

I think Floyd def. has the better defense... Toney's defense is good and he makes great highlights but he is hitable at times. Also his defense involves more of his upper body and head movement. When I think about great defense I have guys like Whitaker and Benitez that had a combination of everything esp. "footwork" and making there opponents miss as they move and making them pay most importantly...

ofcourse he can, but defense is floyds bread and butter, toney uses that style of defense but in an offensive manner.

Defense is still defense. Earlier in Floyd's career really pre-147 he looked to beat his opponents up but now he's accustomed to give boxing clinics. Toney I feel is better in the pocket and more willing to take risks as Floyd is better laterally and looks for his opponents to make mistakes then capitalize. Toney had/has more sturdiness PFP so he could afford to take more risks whcich like you said, Toney is more offensive. Mayweather used to be exciting but became more patient though I liked his clinics against DLH & Mosley. Toney always looks to break his opponents down and even hurt bigger men like Prince Williams and Peter. Both Toney & Mayweather are masters that find weaknesses and exploit them.

Floyd has better defense imo. I can def see the argument for Toney though.
