Both great defensively, but in different ways. As far as "making opponents miss," I'd go with Locche, who would sometimes just stand there with his hands down, let his opponent swing at him, and somehow still make him miss. Canto's elusiveness was more natural, lots of slipping punches and great footwork and moving quickly out of range.
In terms of pure defense Locche has a much better defensive radar and reflex. Still astonishing how physically normal looking he looks yet he somehow manages to be the hardest man to hit clean, especially up close. Canto was more textbook but he definitely had faster hands and feet mainly due to being a Flyweight. He has the edge in footwork and was better boxing on the outside.
In terms of being an effective fighter it’s Canto… in a contest on who can avoid punches like it’s a competition… NL.
